just a story

that isn't reality

Science fiction shows and movies push the advacement and thinking of technology and research.

I.E.

TOS communicators = Possible
Touch pannels = Microsoft Surface / i phone
Triquarter = Black Berry
Headset = Bluetooth

There were many other technologies described in Star treak that has now became mainstream. Technologies that at that time were thought to be immpossible or ridiculous. Just a little while back I think some university or scientist have been working on transporter technology. They have a device that can transport extreamly simple substances. The current computer technology required to transport a human or even an apple would have to be so advanced.

I did notice in star trek that there were never any toliets. If you watched voyager they did show balona (clingon/human) wash her face a couple of times but that's it.

A lot of the stories and plots in star trek try to describe real life situations if we were to encounter another species or in dealing with them. A good example is the Prime Directive. They also go into a little bit of philosophy, data being a good example in voyager. Data was a machine so the crew felt he shouldn't had the same rights as humans. I think it was Kes who spoke to captian janeway on many occasions. You can go on regarding the various ethical dillemas in star trek.

First off it's "B'Elana".

Anyway - there are many occasions where crew members wash their hands or faces in TNG. There were a few where bathtubs were shown, and we also know that they had "sonic" showers.

And you're wrong about Data - the crew did not feel he shouldn't have the same rights as humans - in fact quite the opposite. There was a scientist who wanted to take him apart to learn and try to duplicate Soong's work and Data didn't want to and they tried to have a court battle to determine whether he had the right to refuse or if he was "property" of Starfleet.

Also there are several planets shown with large cities. Mostly the homeworlds of various species - Klingon, Romulan and Cardassian for one were all shown with large cities.

And as far as mass transit goes - why would there need to be vehicles all over the place when people had transporters?

You know I had my facts wrong.

I was refering to "the doctor" in Voyager. Kes was concerned because he wasen't being treated like a member of the crew. Yeah I did now remember sonic showers and bathtubs. I do believe there might of be once case where there was a toliet. Possibly in enterprise.

Yes, the holographic doctor in Voyager was not treated as well as a human counterpart was. Kes noticed and was concerned. He was over time integrated much better into the crew, also helping was his mobile emitter.

I know way too much about this lol.

What I do like about star trek is that they always had an African American or in the case of voyager different cultures for their cast.

My biggest beef is with ship design. All that technology, and they can't give them SEATS with SEATBELTS so they don't start flying around the bridge when the ship is attacked?? Seriously, I could give a pass to the original Enterprise, but you think they would have figured that out by now.

Plus, you might want to have them wearing helmets so they don't get burned all the time from plasma or the spark-prone equipment they use. And here's a bonus -- when you start losing life support in the ship as always seems to happen, you could have a backup supply in the helmet or suit. What a novel concept.

Last nitpick -- when did the highly evolved morons at Starfleet decide that explosives were bad? They get into a fight and can't shoot someone behind a barrier because they apparently lost the technological ability to develop a grenade. I'd think they'd also have UAVs or UGVs (unmanned ground vehicles) to explore alien ships or planets first before beaming in like cattle for the slaughter.

They need someone with military experience to advise these shows.

There was a scene in Enterprise where someone was taking a regular shower and the gravity was turned off. And in the pilot for Enterprise they had a great scene with T'Pol washing off in the decontamination room.

And one more thing - when ships get attacked and the walls start flying apart, how come none of the plumbing pipes blow up and spew shit everywhere? Talk about a kick in the nuts - try fixing that power conduit when it's covered in brown sauce.

I assume that if they can make food out of nothing, they can make water out of nothing, and thus plumbing would be useless, because if they can create stuff like that, it should be trivial to reverse the process on poo.

They don't need plumbing. The way I always "saw" it, they beam the crap straight into space or maybe even straight out of their intestines. Nice and efficient. No more toilet paper, no more left hands and overflowing toilets. Didn't Zefram Cochran say some in First Contact like "You guys don't take leaks in the 24th century?".
