Star Trek TNG Episode: Survivors

Anyone remember this episode? Received season 3 last night and watch the first 3 episodes, this being the 3rd. I'd pretty much forgotten...man, that twist just blows my mind!

An immortal being who decided to live as a human for 50yrs having met a woman. This he did, but at some point the planet he was living on was attacked. He tried to stop the race who attacked them, but they were "hideously intelligent" and were merely incensed. He refused to kill them and his wife and everyone else were killed. In his grief, he killed the attackers. Not just 1, nope. Not just the entire ship which attacked their planet. He wiped out their entire species. :Q

I remember that episode, very cool idea IMHO 🙂

Concept is cool.. but why is he taking action AFTER the fact? The reasoning escapes me.

He swore not to kill, but he went temporarily insane after his wife was killed and unleashed his powers as a result. Apparently, his species is not able to travel back in time (or at least it appears so). In the ending comment, Picard says he doesn't know what to do except leave this man alone, probably for fear that he could do a lot of serious damage if he lost it again.
