Racist? No, at least not the original Star Trek. Quite the opposite.

Nichelle Nichols, who played Uhura in the original series, was the first black woman "featured in a major television series". She wanted to leave the series but stayed on because "Martin Luther King personally convinced her that her role was too important as a breakthrough to leave".

"Her role as Uhura on Star Trek was the first time that an African American actress was portrayed in a non-stereotypical role. Previously, African American female actresses were depicted as maids or housekeepers, and Nichols' role broke the stereotype barrier among African American actresses."

"In her role as Uhura, she participated in the first interracial kiss on US television, with William Shatner (Captain Kirk) in the 1968 Star Trek episode 'Plato's Stepchildren' ... the episode was not screened in some Southern states as a result of the protests in those states ... "

Yup, at least, that's what TOS was.

Federation = good ol' USofA
Klingons = Soviet Union
Romulans = Chinese (with hints of Samurai - hey, it was the 60s in Hollywood. Be glad they could even mentally seperate India from the rest of Asia!)

Yes, Star Trek is racist against blacks, just as Star Wars is racist against whites (storm troopers, Darth Vader being a white man, etc.).

Pokemon is also racist against Polynesians.

If you wanted to make a more interesting argument you would have brought up how the one human black male character in TNG is unable to form healthy relationships with any women. :p

Worf and not Geordi nailed Jadzia. Worf != "human black male character".

Edit - Forgot, ummmmm Jadzia...... *drools*

Hmmmm... Riker, interesting. Anyone keep a tally? I know both get one notch for Troi. And Riker did tap the Bajoran woman that turned on the Starfleet.
