Tried it for a week or so because I was trying to find something casual friendly with a space theme. Space combat was ok but got old quick but I did have some fun. Land combat and exploration was extremely boring and very repetitive. I liked the fact you have your own party system and you can level each character. The interface felt a bit clumsy. The travel system did not give me a good feeling either. Overall, the game didn't really motivate me to continue. There were too many negatives to outweigh the positives (space combat).

I am more of a PVP and market trader type player so I will wait for more of an ELITE or Freelancer type game if it ever gets made.

Best to try and see for yourself but I wouldn't recommend paying for the lifetime until your sure.

If you are at least a little bit interested I see no reason not to try. I got it when the collector's edition is on sale at Amazon for $10 which includes a month free (it's like $12 now).

I didn't end up continuing my subscription, but it was fun at first, especially the space combat part which is kind of fresh. I'll definitely revisit the game if it goes F2P.

Horrible game, avoid unless you are die hard fan that is used to disappointing Star Trek games...

Space combat is boring as hell, ground combat is even worse....

I got ~3 weeks out of it before I got bored. I'd not expect much out of it.

It's repetitive and the most enjoyment comes from the new ship/crew skills... which is pretty rare anyway.. and with the Galaxy class, the new ship is not always an improvement :)

I'll start by saying that I really like Star Trek. I bought the game from Amazon via their digital download service over Christmas for $2.50 and I don't think it's even worth that.

Like others have said, extremely repetitive. I found ship to ship combat fun at first but it got stale really quick. Ground missions are absolutely terrible. I was only able to make it about a week before I stopped playing :(

For once and my life I didn't fall into an MMO Trap. This was the mine I actually dodged. I got hit by Aion...WAR..and AoC.

Space combat is the best combat of any MMO. Ground missions are boring as hell, and I just wanted them to be over with. That was back in early 2010 though.

Just get a good deal at like Amazon and get a 9.99 collector's copy and the free month, you'll find out then if you want to play it more.

Year subscriber, I dont think its as bad as rest, but love it or hate it (seem to be only choices, no middle ground) WoW is still the best Pay to play.. not without its flaws and problems, just the lesser of all evils..When it comes to Space you dont have alot of options, STO is about it. Personally I liked the Ground missions as they where somewhat of a challange, the space combat was easy, and had way to much "travel time" in and out of missions that was boring. If you are a Fan of Trek i say look for a $19 box ( you get a free month) and try it. I made it about a month and half, and have looked in 4-5 times since and played a day or two.

the simple fact is, Free 2 play games are almost on par with Paid ones now. More grindy, but heck going form zero to 85 in month really isnt a good thing In my mind..

Allods, Runes of Magic, LOTRO, Champions, AD&D, Perfect World, etc.... all free.. try um all, should burn up a few weeks if not months each.. why pay to play? :)

But I mus say for a few months STO was fun to me.. shrug

Um, I'm pretty sure they have a free trial so you can try the game out without spending anything. At least that's what I did, and I was very unimpressed with it.
