So I reinstalled the beta n tried it again. I'll be damned but they really cleaned it up in 2 weeks. I was impressed and actually enjoyed playing the game. Reminded me of a Mass Effect MMO in ways. I may be buying now.

I am so conflicted on if I want to be a science or tactical officer and if I want to play a cruiser or science vessel. I haven't been able to decide for days!

Tempted to buy the lifetime sub and then start playing in 6 months or so if/when I get bored of EQ2 (maybe playing a bit from time to time)

played klingon for a little more than an hour. not sure what I think about it yet. Cloaking seems nice, but has about zero utility solo as everyone flies around with shields always up. and I tried finding some pvp action, but everything I fought still ended up being NPC stuff.

And if anyone has any extra taco codes for the shuttle, you can help someone out that doesn't live near one ;)

They should have a passive energy drain for shields up to allow for that to be handy.

Same with cloaking- or at least Wait X seconds after de-cloak for shields to come up to balance the tables.

That'd be an interesting........ investment. I could only dream of having that kind of disposable income.

Haha, yeah. I could do the same as I have the disposable income, but it doesn't seem to me to be a very good way to "dispose" of it. Why not just wait six months, pay for 1 month to see if you like it, and then do the lifetime if you do? You would only be down $15 for one month from your other option but you are also no just throwing your money away if you don't like it. Plus you can see reviews for the first six months.

If the game takes off and goes apeshit the lifetime will be pulled or janked up to twice the price.

I got my preorder in, but lately the beta's been nothing but crash crash crash for me.

It faults my videocard driver in the crash log. I haven't bothered trying to see if anything shows up on the forums.

I had the option with LOTRO and then it vanished. I kind of wish i had gotten it so I could go back from time to time and chat with my friends (though the NA game is IP blocked in China)

Playable borg might be fun (I dont think this is offered normally - I am possibly wrong). Either way, a lifetime sub is about the same as a good night out.

The current lifetime offer is going away on the first, so they are giving a limited window now. I got the lifetime sub in lotro. Played heavy for about 13 months and a couple hours a month since then. Never have to pay to log in whenever I want is rather nice.

Another big bug patch yesterday. One of the things fixed was you no longer see that instance menu anymore when moving between maps.

Also saw reports in game that people were getting tribbles as loot, which would make the best buy preorder kinda meh. The only thing to see if the loot tables have been loosened for beat and they go away at release.

Did read a bit about pvp; it seems that for organized play it's pretty much set up in matches based on ship tier, so no large battles with all types of ships and that's a bit disappointing. I haven't tried it yet, but if you fly into the other factions space can you engage at will when someone is just sitting out in sector space?

Combat is pretty similar to the old starfleet command games with 3 exceptions: no boarding parties or system damage (although both should be implemented later as their are in game modifiers for both currently) and no range degradation of weapon fire (which is a rather good thing since this game also has a rather limited max weapon range like SFC did).

I've found it rather fun to have 3 tier 1 cruisers going against a tier 4 battleship with a couple tier 1 escorts.

I had a look on the site and it looks like you can buy the lifetime sub later but it costs $60 more.

Time to research more. I'm not a big Star Trek fan but a good space MMO could be fun.
