Nope. I'm just here. I will be roaming around STO during the beta. As soon as they ask me for money though, I'm outta there - likely on to the next title that graces me with an invite. Just happy to provide whatever info I can, NDA or not.

Ironically, I end up playing most games, even MMOs, solo. I play games generally for my own enjoyment, not how someone else wants me to enjoy it. That's the entire reason I quit WoW so long ago...

I will say though, I'm happy you guys are taking it upon yourselves to check the game out as opposed to taking my word for it. My tastes are quite different than most (hell, I don't like beer!), so having an informed opinion is a good thing.

Well, you can sign up on the STO website directly. You'll eventually get a key directly from them. The affiliate keys however have always been limited.

To address the issue of limited keys:

1) Open Beta does not = Unlimited Beta
- They only have so many resources. Open just means that there's little or no criteria to get into the Beta.


2) Short Supply keys in the beginning can create Buzz AND help limit the first group of beta testers to very interested fans and testers.

Only a few hours into open beta myself, but my "acquaintances" over at another hot deals website (NOT going to call them friends) who claim to have been repeatedly abducted by aliens, said that the PvE team based dog fights are very realistic. Yes, realistic. Just sayin'

edit: I can ram my ally without damage, though. I have not tried ramming an enemy yet.

My little brother bought it and played the beta. His quick impressions were that it was fun but probably not something that would hold his interests for a long time.

I am skeptical but what the heck -- I'll buy it when I get home on Sunday. I need a new game and hope that this keeps me entertained for a month or two.

Not deathwatch, but that echo's what I have been saying. There's absolutely no way this game will be ready in what - 3 weeks? - for release. At least not a complete game.

As blanghorst said, it's a nice title, has a little bit going for it, but it, but knowing Cryptic it isn't going to have nearly enough content to keep people interested for more than a few months. It is very repetitive and lacks depth. The ADD instancing will turn off a good many people, especially since the instances are so damn short. Hell, most of the instances in CO were much larger.

It's a somewhat neat premise, but it really feels like a shell of a game right now.

I just finished playing this for a few hours and I agree with this as well. Much like Champions Online, STO feels like it's really missing quite a bit. Also, this game just seems nothing more than a single player game with a online chat element tacked on. I asked a few times in chat if STO was a good game for grouping and no one responded at all. I'm sure there are some grouping elements but MMOs lately have no doubt put the emphasis on soloing. I'm not asking to go back to the EQ1 days but I guess it's too much to ask for a happy balance.

I was able to get on for a few minutes this morning before work, got my character created and completed the first tutorial mission.

So far, I'm a little meh, the presentation seems to be missing polish and the interface at least in space combat seems a bit clunky. Will update with more impressions when I get to spend more time with it.

I too have to say that this game is far from impressive. There are just better MMO's out there. Not one aspect of this game has impressed me thus far.

Let me know after you give STO a run.

Sector Space = Hyperspace.
Mission Space = Solar Systems.
Ground Missions = Resource Harvesting.
Turn around, go back to Starbase 24 and unload your resources.

Even sector space kinda looks and feels like hyperspace did in SC2.
