It turned out he DID drink coffee in the afternoon.

I was referring to the fact that it must be harder to fabricate "chemical spectral" footage than it is a grainy iphone video. I had no problem with the final revelation that her intuition was wrong all along.

You're willing to accept the premise of FTL travel and transport technology...but have issues with communications being even faster that FTL?

"sub-space" communications is like a casual channel, think of it like a time machine but only for communications/data, not physical objects

ATOT forgets that communications tech has always been faster than one can physically move. Always has been.

I can call family on the east coast and have a real time conversation over air waves, but it'll take me several hours to fly there commercially. Took about 3 days for Apollo astronauts to reach the money, but radio was nearly real time.

Out of all the scenes in the series, that's the stupidest one for you? o_O

I forget which episode exactly, but in STNG, I think in season 2 or 3? Near the end of the episode some old guy (planetary diplomat?) gets pushed down during a struggle, and lands onto a glass coffee table, which breaks, and they rush him to sickbay. He dies from his injuries.

Think about that for a moment.

Its a starship. It gets tossed around all the time. Why the F is there a glass coffee table in the middle of the room? Why the F does the glass shatter? He should have simply bounced off of it. But fine, it must be some kind of antique replica, so he cuts himself up pretty bad. How the F does medical treatment not instantly fix him? W T F? "I'm sorry Mrs. Diplomat, your husband died from a tragic incident with glass furniture out in space".

:colbert:
Or there's the entire heath care situation. The regulars will receive an immediate transport to sickbay receive and all kinds of elaborate procedures for revival and repair, even if they're already clinically dead. Anyone else just gets a quick tricorder wave or pulse check, and if you're already dead, oh well.

In the communist future of the federation everyone is equal...

but some people are more equal.

Uh ok, so why can't the ships travel at subspace communication speed?

They can travel even faster than subspace speed via wormhole. Besides, its not supposed to be real, just sound good enough so you don't dwell on it.

Hey everybody lets argue about whether nx-01 enterprise is canon and whether a star destroyer could beat the enterprise-d in a fight and not the refit three nacelle enterprise from all good things but the normal enterprise-d then we can argue about whether troi is hotter than seven of nine and what parts of the star wars eu are really canon and i think kirk was the best captain!

From the wise folks on the satellite of love:

"If you're wondering how he eats and breathes and other science facts, repeat to yourself it's just a show , I should really just relax"

in the show or even numbered movie = canon
and whether a star destroyer could beat the enterprise-d in a fight
Clearly not. Lasers? Seriously? 'cmon photon torpedo would tear the shit out of the death-star, much less a wussy little star destroyer, which doesn't even have proper shields.

not the refit three nacelle enterprise from all good things but the normal enterprise-d
WTF? stupid stipulation. Clearly the refit doesn't make any difference in raw firing power and neither ship is going to win on maneuverability (which the added nacelle would only impact if, say, the Picard maneuver where implemented... even then...)

then we can argue about whether troi is hotter than seven of nine
I've had enough of women that "know what i'm thinking and feeling" damit. Give me a heartless Borg any day (though I do prefer brunets).
and what parts of the star wars eu are really canon
Like I said, even numbered movies and the shows = canon. TNG trumps all during contradictions and EU stuff only counts if it doesn't systemically change the universe as established by the core canon.
and i think kirk was the best captain!
That's OK; everyone is allowed to be wrong some times. Kirk was a better Will Riker, but he was not a proper starfleet captain like Picard was; not even close.

Watts in Star Wars seem to mean something different than they do in the Star Trek universe, or else Star Wars would win with no problem. If I remember right, Jango Fett's Slave One ship had a power output rating that rivaled that of a Galaxy Class starship.
Of course, you also had TIE fighters, which had solar panel wings and ion drives. Hopefully they've got a 100,000% efficiency rating on those panels, or else they're not going to be doing a whole lot of good.
