A few of my comments:
The first two seasons of DS9 were terrible. After that it got entertaining, but there was still an occasional bajoran priest falling in love and complaining about water in pacantha province or whatever. Just skip those episodes. Other than that there was some good fun in there. It was the first star trek series to follow long story arcs which made you look forward to the next episode. Consequently when those whiny bajoran love story episodes aired it kicked you in the nuts twice as hard because you were waiting a week for something good.
TNG was more of a one-off type show. You could tune in at any time and not have to know much about what happened previously. There were a few two parters here and there, but mostly they were just single episodes.
