Suspension of disbelief is your friend and don't get too hung up on a few inconsistancies. It's science fiction. It's just entertainment.

I personally welcome the return of star trek. I just hope that the movie is better than the last one, which was just terrible. If they have a new series I hope they have more patience. I think they gave up on enterprise way too easily.

Now let the star trek vs BSG vs SG-x thread wars begin.

It is all entertainement, I agree. But that doesn't mean one can't have standards. :) That's what has made Star Trek (before Enterprise) what it is, and what sets it appart from most Sci-Fi stinkers (say, the Doom movie, or pretty much any hollywood 'Sfi-Fi' POS), and it's sad that ST has sunk so low in the past few years.

We need Jackson, Cameron, Spielberg, and Scorcesse to jointly do a Star Trek movie. It would be 7 hours long, epic in its battles, and everyone would die.

You forgot Jerry Bruckheimer, for the cool explosions :)

A Bruckheimer Star Trek film would ROCK!

On the other hand, a Spielberg one would suck, since they'd never fire the phasers. They'd just use walkie-talkies...

Like I said in the TMNT thread "Hollywood is really running out of ideas".
New Batman series. New Superman. New TMNT.

Maybe we should all read a book.

Read the Hobbit. I hear they're making that into a movie.

J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof are the film's producers; Bryan Burk, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are executive producers. The film is slated for release in 2008.

still waiting for a series or movie that doesn't center around the Federation. How about a Klingon vs. Romulan big ass space war :p

Enterprise-E and the Defiant will mount an attack on the Death Star and the Imperial Fleet. Then the Defiant will then launch trilithium resin torpedoes into the atmosphere of the Forest Moon of Endor, killing off all the Ewoks.

Yeah, no more of this BS of using stock footage in movies, specifically the Bird of Prey explosion from ST 6 and ST Generations. Stock footage in a movie....that's just pitiful, and for something with the budget of Star Trek, it's just that much worse.

Meh...Star Trek used to be relatively consistent until Enterprise; now it's all gone down the drain and anything goes, apparently.

Keep deluding yourself thinking that.

There were more contradictions and inconsistencies within TNG than any other series.

TNG had some good moments, but for the most part, it sucked.
Sadly, true in many respects. Among them are the effects. Various ship components have different functions and names from episode to episode.

Or a redone version of the last episode of DS9 that doesn't make frequent use of stock footage. Or seeing the battle of Wolf-359.

I heard they're going to do Kirk and Spock in Starfleet Academy. Could have some glint of hope to it.

Which is another glaring inconsistancy. Spock was supposed to have served under Captain Pike before Kirk took command. They didn't know each other before that.

"Another" inconsistancy? Star Trek doesn't have any inconsistancies.

;)

Kirk is going to end up being Spock's brother, Picard's father and Archer's grandson

first of all, star trek has so many inconsistancies that i don't know where to begin. i remember an episode where they fired phasers during warp. o this will probablly suck.

Werd...plus Spock has a long lifespan. (What like 500 years or so) He should look exactly the same as he did and not any younger. This is possibly the worst idea ever. They have destroyed Star Trek if this goes through.
