Hey everybody, so I briefly looked at star citizen one day because I was wanting to see what the next big MMOs were going to look like.

I saw about a dozen videos on star citizen but all I saw were literal, movie trailers and stuff like looked like movie trailers. But through all that time to the point where I just got bored and stopped looking at it, I never understood what this was.

I see that there are these miniature planets with bland empty landscapes that you are totally free to run around in. These, totally empty landscapes.... Good job, no one else has EVER done this before.

What I wanted to see was the kind of economy the game would have, the setting, the politics, the nuts and bolts that make the game what it is.

But to date, I dont know a single thing about this game other than it has planes, and vast empty spaces to gauck at.

Can anyone tell me? Like maybe an Eve Online parallel?

Star Citizen will make Eve Online look like Asteroids.

Sometime in 2087. You better buy your digital ships now. Time is running out.

I can answer this. But given your post count just let us know what CIG company paid for this concern post?

@kn51:

Are you saying that because my account is new that I am not a real person coming here to actually talk about something?

I dont know, why dont you check my post history and see what came before this... I made this account because I was sick and tired of trying to watch videos and decided it was better to actually try and talk to people about stuff. I only came to this thread because it was on my screen incidentally within the same hour as I was annoyed by trying to find vidoes for this game. And I only ended up on this forum because I saw another question that I went looking for that had some sincere responses.

But hey, go ahead and accuse me of being a bot... I dont care...

But in all seriousness, I only saw one video of someone playing this game on the ground, and it said virtually nothing about the game. I thought it was a Mass Effect copyright lawsuit waiting to happen. If you, or someone else could actually explain what makes this game special, aside from having vast empty spaces, please help me understand this, or, maybe give me a link to a video that actually means something.

Stay away from Star Citizen. That's all you need to know.

That is utterly incredible devotion! I play some games where people are outraged over $15 DLC.

This is what gets me the most on this. More power to those that can afford it, but it's hard for my brain to accept considering the amount of screaming on the costs of games.

If I win the lottery this week, I'm going to buy Star Citizen from Chris Roberts and tell the team to stop screwing around with stupid crap and finish the game with all the current mechanics in place.

Or I'll just shut it down.

I would remove planets out of spite.

To be fair, it does seem like they're making some kind of progress with 3.3.

How much longer will they be able to continue the cycle though?

Yes, the progress has been marked. Yeah honey, I'll have the bathroom finished in a month. Two years later...well I'm not comfortable telling you when it will be complete and I absolve myself.

In short, forever as long as people believe in it. (Or when the lawsuit transpires).

$200 million in funding...

TWO HUNDRED MILLION?!?

I think it's important to remember that that funding amount is for TWO games. Still a lot of money (way too much money, in my opinion). But lots of people seem to overlook the fact that CIG are supposedly building a multiplayer and single player game simultaneously.

Isn't most of it a shared resource? The idea of a single player campaign (even though it's marketed now as a game onto itself) needing that much funding doesn't make sense if 90% of it is shared between the two.

Lots of it is shared. But I'm willing to bet that a lot of the $200 million went towards all of the big name actors that did mo-cap for the single player game. I doubt those characters/captures will be used in the multiplayer game.

Historically, this project started out as only a single player game (Squadron 42). A multi-player sandbox universe was a stretch goal that was easily attained. The plan from the very start was to split the project into two separate games. Until February 14th, 2016, a starter package contained both games. After this date, new backers had the choice as to which game to back.

Mocap, Hollywood aspirations, refactoring, incompetence, paying hefty sums to themselves - easy ways to make millions vanish. They can't even pay for specialists now.
