This is to piggy back off an old post Stapples will still price match. I just ordered Crucial.com part # CT32M64S4D75 , from staples do a search for "Crucial PC133 256Mb" Its the same stuff. The only problem is I had to call 4 times before a CSR was nice enough or just didn't realise they weren't suppose to price match. Plus there is a 30.00 coupon floating around. So instead of the 90.00 bucks I ended up with 65 + tax not bad at all

why aren't they allowed to pricematch? I ordered a stick the other night and they even used the crucial.com/webpromo path to get the better price for me. I tried to order another one but their supervisor said they can't use the /webpromo price, but still no problem PM'ing to crucial site.

The description at Staples only says "Crucial Technology 32x64-7.5 256MB Synchronous PC133 168pin 3.3V 133MHz Dimm". Can't tell whether it's the CL=2 or CL=3 variety. Anyone knows which one it is?

the problem I was hearing from the CSR was that the staples.com description of their Crucial RAM didn't have the CL3 comment in it, so they couldn't verify against crucial.com whether it was the CL2 or CL3 stuff (as if staples would carry CL2 stuff...), but if you call in the daytime the CSR would be able to call crucial to verify. luckily I had already ordered the RAM before and I just told them to use that old order as verification and they said that was fine.

*I* must have got REAL lucky, cause they PM'd,
and also gave me the 2nd day air ship like the Crucial web promo, even though they (Staples) said I would get it on the 19th (standard UPS) I got it yesterday (14th) when I ordered it on the (12th).

Seems like some of these online "deals" get so many hits, they kill the deal fast.

I personally feel it's a better deal to order directly from crucial for this deal. Crucial has the cas2 and cas3 modules priced exactly the same right now. These modules that staples is selling are only cas3. If you plan to overclock you will have more luck with cas2 modules, not to mention they're cheap as hell even from crucial. For 256mb at $86 after ebates, you can't go wrong.

It's definately worth a shot to give the PM a chance, at least if you're planning on using a coupon.

Just wondering: What is the difference between the CL2 and CL3? I am also looking for ram for a laptop (IBM thinkpad 390E) but it says it takes PC66, the PC100's are on sale at crucial. Anyone know the specs if I can get away with installing the 100 MgHz on the Thinkpad (PII) without burning the board? The netpath set at 66 or what?
THanks

You can safely use PC100 memory in your IBM Thinkpad.

CL=2 or 3 refers to Cass Latency. It is a technical speed specification that is mainly of interest to folks trying to gain the last ounce of speed out of a computer. You would need to be able to get in the BIOS of the computer to take advantage of faster CL (lower number is faster, it is a measure of how long the memory has to wait to be sure the data is good)
IBM doesn't give you a way to change this (too many ways that you could screw it up, they are trying to protect you)

You Thinkpay needs PC66. That is a MIMNIMUM. There is no harm in using memory that is spec'ed for faster than that.
