I tried PMing earlier in the day and got shot down that's why I didn't post it in chrisjor's thread which I've been posting in.

I got a Mitsumi drive on Friday from my Thursday order with the $25 off coupon. I took it to Staples today and got an exchange for a box which I hoped was a Lite-on (which it ended up being). When I did the exchange I asked for a PM and they said no because Sam's club is not open to general public and is not considered a retail store. They said this even before I mentioned the price, so either somebody tried earlier in the day or they don't PM Sam's club (even though there was one withing 4 miles of the Staples I went to).

Of course YMMV. I'm going to see if AMEX will go for this, but if not no biggy. I think Staples will ahve this for $10 cheaper today (Sunday) so I end up about $64 after rebate and stamp - and that includes SoCal tax 8.25%.

I think Pacific Digital has switched their supplier to Mitsumi so the Lite-ons are now "old stock" and will run out. Not to say the Mistumis are bad, but most people want the Lite-on for various reasons.

forgive me of my newBness when i ask what is "YMMV?"

well...I'm happy to hear that others are getting a good dealio! :D

I'll be trying to send this rebate in tomorrow...we'll see if it comes back...if it does...I'll be happy! :D If not..ahh well :) Just another Staples rebate that didn't come back I guess. My Drive is a MITSUMI manf. date December 2001 I think that the white sticker below it is the firmware...not sure tho...it says "R1.0C / 01" I think my model # is CR-4809TE

well...that's all for now :D

God Bless

Yo guys,

This is an incredibly hot deal for anyone who is lucky enough to get it to work. I got the PD 24X drive using the $25 coupon earlier this week (it was $72 after rebate, good enough for me). I'm gonna give some stats on the Lite-on vs Mitsumi thing real quick. It might be of help to some of you. You can look at the reviews on cdrinfo.com for more details.

Lite-on Facts: faster than Mitsumi in burning CDRs at 24X. it fully supports SD2 CD burning. Their burnproof is comparable and supposedly better than everyone else's.

Mistumi Facts: Rewrites at 12X. Has a 16MB Buffer (yeah seriously, it's overkill). Does have burnproof like feature. Slightly slower than Lite-on and Plextor but you'd be hard-pressed to notice it. Does NOT support SD2 CD burning (you can get around this using cloneCD and a couple add-ons apparently).

So... if you get a Lite-on then you're in luck but if you get a Mitsumi and don't plan on burning SD2 CD, you might as well keep it.

The problem that I see with the scanned receipt is that there is no mention that it is a 24X CD writer. There is
also no mention of the manufacturer of the burner either. As far as Staples is concerned it could be widgets on
that receipt.

I would be reluctant to PM on the basis of this receipt myself. However it is worth a try anyway.

Might give it a try during the week.

SCAN: I see a PD and 24x10x40x with a C in the middle.

But I doubt they PM SAMs.
The Staples by me has 2 women managers, ones nice and ones, well, you know, a #^*&$%*.
My luck would have the nice one on vacation.

How much increase does SAMs tag on "visitors" that want to buy?

IS the TDK as good or better than the Mitsumi? All I see when reading these tests is the "Bad CloneCD performance".

Also wondering how the Plextor 16x stacks up against the TDK 24x and Mitsumi 24x. I was working on a deal if things fall into place that would net near the same price of the 60$ area like the TDK at CC.

Excuse my ignorance but I'm missing something....Does the Pacific Digital box have either a Lite-on or Mitsumi writer inside?

thanks

Correct.

It's a crap shoot. If the store has older stock it could be a Liteon. If newer it is a Mitsumi. If the box says Smartburn, it's Liteon so maybe they have a bunch of boxes where not all are the same. Then you got a chance, that's assuming you get the PM in the first place. I think if you were in Illinois it might have a better chance. I hear most of those guys cry "must be local".

RE:"When I did the exchange I asked for a PM and they said no because Sam's club is not open to general public and is not considered a retail store"

Bingo.

Also I tried the 10 of 10 coupon that worked once before. They were on to that too. The cashier showed me a special memo NOT to accept that coupon...
Appears people abused it...<G>

I have PMed Sam's prices at Staples several times before, but not with a receipt (really difficult with one at a Sam's 700 miles away from me). What we need here is a Sam's shelf tag (the ones they have at the item that you take up to the service desk to get it). Never had a problem with that that at Staples. Anyone?

Please help me out here with some advice. I've never attempted to use a scanned receipt as a PM tool. What do you guys actually do? Just print out the scan and bring it in? Reduce its size and cut it down to normal receipt size? Explain that you got this from someone else, hence the reason it is not the original???

Any input from those of you that have done this before would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I went down to Staples this AM . I got the last drive they had on the shelf and it's a mitsumi . It has "New Buffer UnderRun Technology" stickered over what I figure was the smartburn label (for the Lite-on version) .
They have it on sale for $109.98 , with a FREE 10 pack of IBM 16x CDR's with purchase .
I printed the $20 off $100 coupon and they gladly accepted it . It would not scan but they entered it by hand . So , I walked out with the 24x burner plus a 10 pack of jewel cased CDR's (16x) for $95 and change after tax .
Im gonna mail in the 30 dollar rebate (even though Staples is advertising the 20 off ) so my total cost for 10 CDR's and a 24x burner will be $65 bucks .
I didnt feel like prying a drive from thier hands with a recipt copy , but I guess it could work .
For the $65 bucks Ill be replacing a old Memorex 2x2x24 drive finally :)
Burned a 17 track audio CD just a few minutes ago in about 5 minutes ....Im in love . Thanks for all the heads up guys .

will someone shoot me a pm regarding the 20 off 100 coupon? My trip and try at getting the PD 24x for 31AR did not work, in fact, I walked out of the store with it for 109, soon to be - the 30 MIR for 79. If someone could shoot me a pm with the 20 off 100 coupon....or a way to get local staples managers past the fact that the IL store that the receipt is from is like 1.5k miles away. Or a way to order it online for instore pickup, I just wanna get a better deal than I'm currrently getting, and I'm a newbie. It'd be much appreciated.

Would AMEX PM Sam's price if you only have a copy of the receipt, and not the actual ads? Does anybody know?

OK, so I order the Pacific Digital drive from the Staples website. I'm reading the Sunday paper and looking through the Staples circular and see that a 10 pack of IBM 16x cdr's is supposed to come with this also. I call staples.com to get them to add the cdr's. The staples rep (very polite) puts me on hold for a minute, comes back and says no problem. Adds the cdr's to the order and then tells me that the Pacific Digital drive is currently out of stock. I'm like "cr@p". I ask him to check the B&M store that is local to me. He does and says that they have one. He calls the store, speaks to the manager and has her hold it for me. I go down to the store, pick up the drive and take a copy of my email confirmation from staples.com. The manager gives me the drive for the after rebate price of 89.94 and then applies the $20 coupon from the staples.com order. I get the free cdr's and am out the door with the drive and cdr's for a grand total of $73.09. It gets better, this price is before the $30 rebate I will end up only paying $43.09 for this drive. The best part is that I take the drive out of the box...guess what...LiteOn Model # LTR24102B. There is a label on the drive that has this info...this is the best deal I have gotten in a while...

Read 'em and weep guys... Printed out Tanner's receipt and Sam's Club receipt, went into staples, showed them (Cashier and manager) both the print outs and they said "But this is in Illinois." Retaliated with my printout of sam's club stores (12 of 'em) saying "I called the one in blah blah this morning and they said they had 1 left." They didn't even bother to pick up the telephone and call sam's club, they just gave it to me. So I paid $50.78 AFTER TAX!! minus the $10 off $30 coupon and minus the $30 rebate = $20.78... Linkified for your viewing pleasure There's one more left in my local staples... I'm going back tomorrow to get the last one. muahahah :D

In a nutshell (Brag):
$109.94 Staples original price
-$53.03 PM
_________
$56.91 Sam's Club price
-$10.00 $10 off $30 coupon
_________
$46.91 Subtotal
+$3.87 tax
_________
$50.78 Out the store
-$30.00 Rebate
_________
$20.78 Final price!

Oh ya most importantly... Props go out to tanner, chrisjor, nightman, and noah16 for hosting the scanned receipt :D good luck!

BTW... Mine's a lite-on and so is the other one in the store... Says smart-burn on it :D Bought this one even though I jumped on the Cendyne Omax deal 2 weeks ago :D

Sidenote: $10 off $30 coupon EXPIRES TOMORROW ON THE 7TH OF JANUARY!! BETTER ACT FAST. Going to another nearby staples to pick up another drive :D And then going back to the first staples tomorrow :D

<< So which rebate (or both) is the one to use. They seems to have different rebate numbers. Both are for sku 471101.

Rebate 1 (01-45506) for $20 exp 1/31/02

Rebate 2 (01-45286) for $30 exp 1/12/02
>>

Obviously the $30 rebate :D Or you could be daring and send in both rebates with a copy of the UPC for the $20 rebate and try to get $50 because I've heard cases where staples accepts copies of upc :D But then again, that'd be shady and risky
