I haven't had a chance to call. Why don't you call them at the number on the form and ask if it can be submitted once or twice? The number is 1-888-314-9903 (this number goes right to a real person), and the department number on the rebate form is 31221.

And the answer is (drum roll please)...

One rebate per person, so the advertised deal of the first week from Staples will not work. I am debating whether I just return one of the products, or speak to the store manager and get them to pay me the $30. I've never had luck with Staples doing this, but I guess I could try. It is rather disturbing that Staples.com did not respond to my email.

Bill,

You are right and Staples is wrong about the "stand alone" theory.

Here is Symantec reply:

Original Equipment Manufacturer versions come preinstalled on your computer
at no additional cost to you. Many companies provide free OEM versions of
products so that customers have the opportunity to try the product. These
do not qualify for most rebates. However, though Norton SystemWorks is a
suite of products, it is considered by Symantec to be a stand alone product
as it was purchased.

I won't say "I told you so" :).

Nevertheless, you said your copy of NSW 2001 was OEM, and if it says that on the CD, I don't think it will qualify. I still think your really old copy of NAV is your best bet. They'll be so happy knowing you finally upgraded.

Hi again:
I don't want you to think, Bill, that I didn't try calling Symantec. I tried and trie and could not get to a real person. How on earth did you get that number??

I've seen that number posted before, but I actually got that number from Amazon the other day to call CPG about my Elibrium rebates. There are some numbers that do give you an opportunity to talk to a person after you get the automated information, the old Learning Company number still works like that. I was surprised to see that the Symantec number was not among them, since they have pretty decent customer service with CPG. However, they do call you back if you leave your number, believe it or not.

<< Does the Quicken rebate come inside the Turbo Tax box? >>

Please read the other posts in this thread, as this has already been covered. The Quicken $30 rebate *is* in the TT box.

I just scanned back through the posts and didn't find anything saying the Quicken rebate was in the box. I found tons of information about the Symantec rebate, but nothing specifically saying the Quicken rebate was in the box. Next time before posting I will read every single word of every single post in the thread before asking what I think was and is a reasonable question that is simple to answer.

My mistake, there is another thread here with more details on the rebates. There is a $40 rebate coupon in a booklet in the TT Deluxe box, which is $10 for TT Deluxe and $30 for Quicken. Make sure you do not toss the booklet, which claims to be simply "special offers".
