TurboTax Deluxe is now in stock. Put that in your cart along with Quicken 2002 basic and Norton Antivirus 2002. You must have a previous version of Norton to get the full rebate.

You get $10 MIR for TT. $30 MIR for Quicken. $30 MIR for Norton because you bought TT, and a $20 MIR upgrader. Use the $25 off $100 coupon.

$94.89 plus tax checkout cost. $90 in MIR's. PLUS you get Turbotax state for free after rebate and an electronic filing rebate.

Thanks again Staples (sux)

$30 MIR for Norton because you bought TT

I can't find any reference to a $30 MIR for NAV 2002. Is it a Staples deal or a Intuit/Symantec offer. Great deal if it's true.

It's probably an Intuit/Symantec deal since I've seen other stores offering something similar.

Make the deal even better: according to the Staples circular, you can also get Norton Personal Firewall for free after rebates with the purchase of any tax software as well. It's $49.99, so it takes your order over $150 and you can use the $30 off coupon, which should make this whole thing free after rebates, other than taxes (although the extra $50 does add close to $5 in tax (and 2 more stamps), depending on where you live)! Furthermore, there is a $30 off coupon which is valid in-store. I am going to just go pick up the whole thing at my local store in the morning! Also, if you buy in store, you get a copy of Versacheck Personal Express free instantly (it's a big $2.95 online but I don't see a way to get it free), although I don't have a lot of interest in printing my own checks.

Thanks for pointing it out!

Where's the Firewall offer? I see $20 off, but how are you getting free after rebates on it?

It's in the circular, on page 8 along with the NAV offer. I am not sure what the form looks like for that, I will find out in a little while. I am hoping that at least some of these are on the same form. I know the $20 piece of each of the Symantec things aren't. And remember that there is $10 on TT alone. This is the king of the "we hope you forget about at least some of these" rebate deals.

Does anyone know what the OD equivalent of this offer looks like? Is it any good? I just got a $30 off $100 email coupon from them yesterday so I could buy less and pay less sales tax. They don't have their circular online and I do not see a thread here (and www.salescircular.com is useless) :-(.

CRAP. Every year for the past two years, I've gone out and bought Quicken Deluxe when I find it for a decent price... like $69 with $30 back (or similar).

And then 2 months later, I see the always recurring staples/OM deals around Christmas/early near year where you get Quicken BASIC and 57 other software programs for $2. Some day I'll learn. :| Maybe I'll get in on this deal and then do some e-Gayin'

It could be worse, you could give in to Intuit's constant barrage of direct mail telling you that you should buy from them direct because they are giving you a special existing customer discount, only to find that you paid more than you would have in the store and got it later than you could have picked it up there. I just got telemarketed for Q2002 at my office last week. I told them no way!

BTW the OfficeMax ad for this stuff borders on being fraudulent. On one side of the page they have TT basic and Quicken basic and the price says "get both for $19.95". On the right, they have TT Deluxe and Quicken Deluxe and it says "get both for $29.95", and in much smaller print is says "each". I wasted 5 minutes doing the math trying to figure out how it came down to $29.95 total before I noticed that. You can see the ad scans on the OM web site to see what I am talking about.

Anyway, all you need to remember is to wait for TT to come out to get Quicken. Given that there will generally be several bug fixes released before then anyway, it's probably just as well that you wait. There's very little new in each new release anyway, just bells and whistles that people don't care about and no bug fixes that they want.

This seems like a purty sweet deal - though a word of warning: it appears that the purchase of tax software gets you the MIR (Symantec deal) for EITHER Norton AntiVirus OR Norton Personal Firewall. Here's the rebate form linky I found at the @m@zon site.

So my order looks like TurboTax Deluxe $40 + Quicken Basic $30 + Norton Personal Firewall $50 = $120 less Staples $25 off $100 coupon = $95 less $10 TT rebate less $30 Quicken rebate less $50 Symantec rebate = $5, plus any applicable state/local tax on the pre-rebate total. And free shipping since the order is over $50!

Thanks Mr Mac, et al...

===============
Please use the Symantec rebate form link provided by tangent1138 below. It's right from the Symantec website (where I first looked but couldn't find) and prints/displays much clearer than the link I provided.

Am I talking to myself here? Am I the only one with a Staples B&M circular from this weekend still? The cover clearly states "$140 worth of free sfotware" and shows TT Deluxe for $29.95 after $10 mail in rebate. They show NAV, Norton Firewall, Quicken 2002 and TT State, along with Versacheck 2002. And on page 8, they have a "Free with purchase of any tax software..." window and it has both NAV and Norton Firewall. I have seen offers from other stores with an either/or for these. That is not the way it is worded in the Staples ad.

Ok, I've got a couple basic questions about this deal. First, the $10 TurboTax rebate is clearly stated, however, is the $30 MIR for Quicken from Staples or Intuit? Second, is the $30 Quicken MIR for the program itself or is it for the "free" state tax program?(can't find the rebate stated anywhere) Lastly, I don't need the Norton software so is the $20 upgrade rebate for this software and are any of the other rebates void if I don't purchase the Norton software?

Also, did anyone else get conflicting costs for Quicken after placing TurboTax in your cart. On the suggested list of additional software, Quicken shows up for $3.96 however after being placed in my cart it shows up as $29.95, slightly misleading.

I know that the Staples ad says that both Norton products are free after rebates, but I looked very closely at the Symantec form and it seems to me that one can get only one $30 rebate, not two.

Having seen the form, I tend to agree with you, but I think that a phone call to the rebate center is in order to clear things up. Personally, I can do without the firewall program, and I'd be just as happy to return it and get my $50 plus tax back (but still keep the $30 off from the coupon). In any event, the ad does clearly state that both should be valid, so either this is not the correct form, or we are reading the form incorrectly, or Staples messed up and will have to make good if stuff gets rejected. I would certainly submit for both programs if you actually want both programs, and complain to Staples if one is rejected (be sure to save the ad as proof).

I'd pass on the firewall. Spending an extra $50 just to get an additional $5 in coupon use is not worth it. Plus I've never read a review that said NIS is a top-notch product.

As far as the rebates go, I'm pretty sure none of these are Staples-related.

These offers come from Intuit and Symantec.

Last year, many of us scored a muh better deal on Quicken/Turbotax by ordering a box-less (but otherwise legit) version from directdeals.com. I checked there recently, and the same deal is not currently available. Which makes sense since Turbotax is a new product, and it wouldn't make sense for Intuit to be blowing it out right now.

Final warning, the customer reviews for Quicken 2002 at Amazon.com are just terrible. A recent PC Magazine "first look" review was nearly as bad; it actually advised customers to jump ship to M$ Money (something I have no intention of ever doing). For now, I'm sticking w/ Quicken 2000. I have very little grasp of personal finance anyway, so it's not like I need the latest greatest bloatware. I have Quicken 2001 (from last year's directdeals.com purchase) gathering dust.

The $10 TT, $30 Quicken, free state software (bought in-store or downloaded next year) and free electronic filing rebates are in a booklet inside the TT box. THe $20 Symantec upgrade coupons are in the respective boxes and $30 bundle rebate for the Norton products are on an 8.5x11" page which has been posted here.

Since I've already got NAV, I just grabbed the Personal Firewall figuring I'd check it out and eBay it if it didn't look worthwhile. I'm a happy enough Quicken 2001 user, so if 2002 is so bad I may end up auctioning that off as well. Still - I'm happy just to get TurboTax with electronic filing for a fiver!

Thanks.

Couple things:

1.) For the upgrade rebate, you can have ANY norton or McAfee product. It doesn't matter. Just follow their rules. For instance, I bought McAfee Virusscan 6.0 a couple of months ago from Amazon for free after the rebate (which I just got last week). Just use the front page of the owner's manual or the top flap (follow Norton's directions on the rebate form) and you are home free.

2.) Regarding rebates . . . Intuit is just a shade under Microsoft in terms of how fast they come. I've also had zero problems with Norton's rebates (they usually go to the Phoenix outfit). Just make copies, and you're set. It's better than shelling out $30 every year for just the tax software. $5 for that plus Quicken 2002 and Norton AV 2002 will do the trick nicely for me, thank you.

I now have an e-mail confirmation and an order status page. What do we normally use as the receipt when we purchase from Staples online?

Will the e-mail confirmation do? The order status page says it's for reference only.

Thanks.

I actually went and bought this stuff from CC this weekend along with Norton Utilities 2002. As far as the Norton upgrade rebate goes, could I use the Norton Utilities 2002 as the "any Norton product" for the NAV 2002 upgrade rebate and vice versa? Or does it have to be a "previous" version, like Norton Utilities 2001.

The reason I ask this is because in the CC Sunday flyer it says NU 2002 is $49.99-$15 Mfr mail in rebate - $25 Instant rebate = $9.99. However, there is no $15 Mfr mail in rebate anywhere to be found and CC knows it. If you look at the CC web page they are covering their behinds because it says $49.99 - $20 Mfr upgrade rebate - $25 Instant rebate = $9.99 (do the math). Anyway, I am going to go back to CC and see if the manager will refund me the $15 for the non-existant rebate.
