Staples pulls the Vewsonic G tablets

Author was right. 2011 will be known as the year of junk gadgets.
Too many android phones, tablets, netbooks, and laptops with new features. Not all of them can be top notch and in order to compete with prices some of them will have to be REALLY cheap.

Here's Viewsonic's official statement.

Naturally, we asked Hanin why the G Tablet was shipped in this half-finished state at all -- he told us that while Android and Tegra are great platforms, Google's lack of support for larger devices means that companies like Viewsonic have to "go out and put together their own software and app stores." We're not sure that's a great answer -- in fact, it sort of sounds like Viewsonic is trying to blame Google, Adobe, and NVIDIA for its own half-finished and laggy software, when it released the tablet on its accord own to retailers.

Production defects happen when you let Apple sets the market and then you try and play catchup getting a product out before Christmas.

i'm getting a second after the holidays, hoping i can snag a deeply discounted one.

i think staples/sears got bombarded with returns from people expecting flash oob, seeing as it advertises it ON the box, lol.

but with a custom rom this thing flies, and development is just heating up.

The hardware is really solid on these actually. Viewsonic just screwed up the software side of it, though supposedly they're releasing on OTA update this week to fix a lot of that?

I saw this at office depot and it performed more like the walgreenTab than the ipad. It was very slow and the screen wasn't very sensitive, you had to push really hard to click on links or scroll. It was very sluggish. Its too bad, I was hoping it would be better for the price from a usually decent company. I definitely would pass on this dog.

I recieved mine for Christmas and out of the box it was horrible, force closes on everything. I connected to the Wifi and there was an update available (3389), if fixed all of the issues I was having and mad ethe tablet very usable. Now I have Vegan Beta 3 installed and this thing flies. It is pretty badass. After seeing mine two people at work have purchased it as well, one of them being an apple fanatic.

Oh, and the kernel was just released by Viesonic so custom ROM development is about to blow up for the G-Tablet.
