Some words of advice from a staples employee who gets no employee discount but rapes the Internet Price Guarantee.

*** PLEASE ALWAYS BE COURTEOUS TO SALES ASSOCIATES, YOU ARE GETTING GOOD DEALS AND MAKE SURE THEY KNOW YOU APPRECIATE IT ***

1) If shipping is not included in the price the mangager/person on the phone will want to charge you an overnight shipping price (my gay mananger who pulled policyt out of his ass did the same) cannot do this. In the store on the price match guarantee statement it says that if shipping is not listed they add 5 dollar to the price :)

2) With the money you save, buy a protectoin plan, not only does it extend the warranty but the associate makes about a dollar, he will be appreciate.

3) Coupons always help, it doesn't hurt to ask an employee if you can use a staples.com coupon in the store because they use the same coupon codes. Also, the Staples SKU number is a 6 digit number identifying the product.

3) Many things in stock at the store can be ordered in the store. 1-800-711-0903 is the number employees call to check the stock in nationwide warehouses, just know the 6 digit SKU and your zip code and it will tell you if you can order one! If you want one goto the store and fill out a form.

4) Their return policy is as lax as their price match policy. There is no restocking fee on anything except for laptops so buy and return within 14 days. Got a lan party? buy a 8 port hub and return it. Need to burn some cd's? Just buy an external burner and return soon. ** JUST MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR RECEIPT ** Returning Items you did not buy is illegal on the other hand.

5) I have never ever seen them call the police on anything even for people trying to steal laptops out of the store ( But please do not steal goods off the floor, do it via a pricematch so staples makes some money). The consequenes for a fake pricematch is throwing you out of the store.

Here is a list of things that I have bought pricematched.

HP Scanjet 3300 Scanner.. 19.99
Lexmark Z22 Printer.. 43.49 - 30 dollar rebate (mail in)
Yamaha 8x4x24x buner: 99.99
Sony Spressa External 4x4x6x Burner: 79.99
6 foot Belkin Printer Cable: 6.99
Epson Stylus 500 Black Cartridge: 8.99

Just remember these rules, use common sense, be thankful and courteous to employees, try not to check out at customer service where the employee is more experiences, keep receipts and ask for duplicates if you send rebates.

Good Luck and tell me how you fare!

---

What we do NOT need is a Stapled insider telling everyone how to cheat Staples.

You picked the wrong forum. Good bye.

I think its illegal returning a 2 gig harddrive in a 60 gig box. This forum does not appreciate deals that involve illegal operations.

i agree it is illegal... but staples gets a full credit on returned hard drives from the manufacturer and ergo they are willing to accept back things of this manner.

Nuke this thread mods, this is totally ridiculous and unethical to say the least!!!!!!!!!

After I saw your edit:

<< 2) If you fudge the price/product name, for the most part they do not check it. If they do check it its when they get a chance many hours after you have installed and are enjoying your new electronics product. >>

This is OK? I don't think so! This is still unethical and I don't think this is OK.

Words of advise, we don't discuss things of questionable nature here. IE... Doctoring internet pages for a pricematch, changing the product that is returned for a like item, etc...

You will be banned if you don't stick to real, honest deals here. We all know things like that happen, I am also sure many people on this board may do it also, but don't utter the words out loud.

Just a kind note.

I do agree with you, if your kind to the csr's, and follow the pricematch rules most Staple employees will take care of you. My little BRO works at Staples also.

On that note, there is a Staples NAZI who trolls this board, if he can locate you he will. I once posted a staples deal at my brothers store and with-in 12 hours a regional manager had called his store to speak with the manager about what I had put on this board.

Another thing you missed was the dot at the bottom of a price tag meaning an item will no longer be carried. You can many times talk to a manager about getting a better deal on these items to help clear them out.

heh, i agree the hard drive swap out was ABSOLUTLEY RIDICULOUS! I told the manager myself that the hard drive was one he pulled out of his old computer, and yet he still took it back. It didn't help that the customer was rude too :(

I am not aware of that dot, I have not seen it in my store, though items that have been discontinued are often discounted beyond belief. I saw Linux books for .01$ digital cameras for 50 dollars (1.3 MB)... I will try to closer adhere to the rules and reguations of this board and I apoligize for not doing so earlier.

btw, what is the official word on the overnight shipping thing? I didn't quite get what you were saying.

So the MOST they can charge you is $5 and that they can't add cost to your order b/c the guy your pricematching against charges extra for overnight?

Here is a good one for any Staples employee or anyone else who knows the answer. What gives Staples.com the right to charge tax for shipments to a state where no Staples stores exist (Louisiana)?

i don't know but use it as an argument to knock off the 5 dollar shipping charge. staples.com was a mistake, we lose 10s of millions on it every year, i believe they are desperate?!

btw, what is the official word on the overnight shipping thing? I didn't quite get what you were saying.

it means that whatever you match just do not bring in a shipping cost and the maximum shipping staples can add is 5 dollars as outlined in the store. I believe they are assuming you will be pricematching legal pads and not voodoo 5's.
