Staples online sale 7/18-7/24 here

Norcent 17" LCD w/speakers $279.94 after $70 MIR
Pacific Digital 8X DVD+/-RW $49.99 after $30 MIR
Solid wood 3-shelf bookcase $19.94
Teon 20pk DVD + or - R $9.94 no rebate
Situations black fabric manager's chair $49.94 no rebate

To hell with those...a 1GB USB 2.0 memory key for 99 bucks AR?!?!?!

(79 for me because of a 20 dollar Teacher Rewards cert). I wanted an 80x version, but for this price I think I'll cope.

EDIT: DAMMIT. How does "1 Business Day" somehow turn into "Out of Stock?"

Additionally, their Titanium 512MB with lauded write/read times of 13 and 15MB/sec respectively isn't bad - and the capless design is nice...too bad THAT one is in stock and the 1GB isn't.

Discount for teachers, probably. A lot of the office supply stores have them. To get them you need to be a teacher...

Check out the buy.com sale going on right now on memory/storage... they've got an 80x 1GB for $80 no rebate (if memory serves).

I'm not seeing it - their price is 205 and the only "rebate" available is money off @ oFoto.com.

that's all a gamble on what you can get w/ an 8x Pacific Digital. it can be an 851s, 811s, 2500a, or an Optorite. most of the ones i've seen when they had them at OM were 811s. i didn't see any 2500a. you can tell by the serial number on the box. i'd say it's only worth it if you get an 851s or a 2500a, those 2 you can upgrade to dual layer. the 811 can't. i prefer LiteOn also over the NEC b/c the LiteOn can support automatic bitsetting.

If the serial number starts with 41 it's a NEC 2500A, anything between 42 and 48 is a Lite-on (811,812,851,black or beige). Avoid boxes with serial numbers starting with a letter (those are BTC).

im also wondering about the lcd.... anybody?

Look at the specs for it on Staples website:

Maximum Resolution 1024 x 768 75Hz
Recommended Resolution 1280 x 1024 75Hz

WTH????
People who own this monitor has said that the correct maximum resolution is "1280 x 1024" the specs on staples web site are incorrect.
