Went to Staples to look at a desk, manager asked if I needed
any help. Told him I was probably going to order online to use a coupon since they have free shipping. He pointed to a computer set up in the furniture section and showed me how to order it online with the coupon and print the receipt to pay at the counter and take it home with me as long as they had it in stock. The price was $20 cheaper in the store so he rerang the item for the lower price, and still got the coupon. Did the same for a chair today. The catch is the item has to be in stock in the warehouse to be able to add it to your cart, doesn't matter if they have it in the store, but not in the warehouse. The manager said they are trying to integrate the bricks and clicks and all the stores should be getting this. Hope this makes sense, I don't post much, mostly just lurk. This was in Williamsburg, VA.

I think he means if they have it in the store and not in the warehouse then you can't get the deal. They have to have it in the warehouse, or the Staples.com cart system won't let you add it. Obviously they have to have it in the store for you to take it home with you on the spot, but if they don't have it in the store it sounds like you can still do this (to get the in-store price and still use an online coupon) and have it delivered.

Hey this is great information.

Been wondering if there was a way to take advantage of the coupons at the B&M...

Makes sense that they have to have it in warehouse...to allow the order to go through.

Great information...hopefully my local ODs will soon have the same set up...getting tired of arguing with those CSRs just to get the coupon discount.:)

Should have pointed this out myself earlier. He's right, Staples now has online ordering in their stores. You can order online within the store, then pay at the register. This is cool especially if you have any credit with them. BTW they now give gift cards for credit if you don't have a receipt. You will still have to log on with your info at the B&M, but at the end it gives you a choice whether to pay at the register or online.

Former Staples employee out.

Hey guys, Blakwngbrd got it right, it has to be in stock in the warehouse to be able to add it to the cart. At that point you can print it out pay for it and take it home or if the store is out of stock you can have it delivered for free. I did a chair today that was $99.99 in the store but $109.99 on the website. Wasn't going to argue with $10 difference using a -$30 coupon so the total was $79.99 without tax. Took it to the register and the manager scanned it in at $99.99 and gave me the -$30 coupon, didn't even have to buy a stick of gum to get to $100. Pretty good system once you get used to it. Instant gratification with online coupons.

Staples has two different systems. Prepaid and online. The prepaid system items come out of their local shipping point and is delivered by UPS overnight if over $50. The online system is Staples.com, but you have the ability to pay at the register. The prepaid system has some, but not all of the items the store carries, really depends.

I think there is one in Richmond and maybe at the Beach but none on the Peninsula so it is definitely the only one around. I haven't been to the one in Richmond so I don't know if they have this yet. If you ever find out let me know, it would be nice to have another stores stock to check if the 'burg is out cause I'm close to Richmondas well.

i wonder if we can call staples and pricematch an item and then put it on hold. This way we can then goto the store and pick it up and still use those $40 coupons that they don't let us use over the phone.

Been using online codes in all Bergen County NJ BMs since first finding out about them here in Dec. Some stores asked for proof.I had received one email myself with a code on it from Staples. So I just print it up again with new code I see posted. But sounds like that with Pinhead's post it will not be needed anymore. Thanks Pinhead good post!

Actually Pinhead I live in Portsmouth, and AFAIK there isn't one at the beach, so Williamsburg is definitely the closest one to me.

Hey bagger, let me know if I can check anything in the store for you. It's kind of on the way home, might save you a trip.

Their system makes no sense at all. Why would you want to go to the store and order on-line. That is stupid, "Absolutely nothing, you soooo stuuuupiiiid",UHF. If you are going to the store you buy at the store. If you want to buy on the internet, you buy on the internet. If you want to buy on the internet and pick it up at the store. You buy on the internet (from your home/work) and you pick it up at the store. Hopefully they are going to implement this on the main website much like BestBuy's system. But, I am uncertain if they are bright enough to do this. I mean this a place that gives you free shipping on orders over $50, you buy a CD-Rom drive and some staples. They send you the CD-ROM and the staples seperate but in the same size box. Do you really need that big of a box to send staples?

Hey cmatthes1, perhaps you need to return something but don't have a receipt, do you want a gift card...no. So you can order something online and pay with it with your return, sounds good to me.

I hear ya though, had them put a $.26 bag of rubberbands in a huge box when they could have included it with the CDROM I bought.
