Just found this at their site...

Delivery is FREE on Staples.com orders from 11/4/02 - 12/28/02. Free shipping offer is not valid on Business Service Provider, Custom-Printing Service Provider Web Sites, placement or assembly services. Please note the packing slip with item prices will be included in the package and gift-wrapping is not available.

Orders for office supplies will be shipped pending credit approval and product availability. Supply orders from our Staples online catalog received by 5 PM (local time), placed within our local trading areas (approximately 20 miles from a local store) are available for next business day delivery, Monday through Friday. Orders placed outside of local trading areas will arrive in 3-5 days via UPS. Click here for more information about our estimated delivery times.

Furniture orders from the online catalog are only available within local trading areas. However, furniture deliveries may be scheduled for specific weekdays in certain areas. When you place your order you will be informed of your delivery days or you can contact us for the furniture delivery days in your area.

For your security, it is best to have someone available to sign for your order during the hours of 9-5, Monday-Friday. If no one is available and you would like the driver to leave your shipment, please click here for the Driver Release Agreement. If you do not post a Driver Release Agreement, the driver will decide whether or not to leave the order unattended. Please note that the delivery lead times are estimates and may vary based on carrier shipping practices and geographic coverage areas. After submitting your order you will receive an e-mail confirmation detailing your delivery dates and expected shipments.

Maybe I'll order some paperclips!
Relax folks, just kidding.....

If staples screws people over on coupons or something guess what will start happening? 100 individual orders for 17cent paperclips.

Darn. I just bought something yesterday from staples.com and threw in some junk to make it above $50 for the free shipping. I wish I had discovered this yesterday. Too bad. :)

I thought Staples always had free shipping. No matter how much I spent at Staples, the shipping is always free. Maybe it is because there is a Staples store within 1 mile.

By all means, suck that corporate teat dry.....so long as it don't hurt the stores, its a good thing. In fact if you want to, you can even help your local store while bleeding corporate by going into a store to do the order. Then the store gets credit for the sales, but the free shipping charge is eaten by staples.com....especially important for those looking only to get 1 small pack of paper clips. You also have the option of paying for cash, so its harder to trace.

Another way to help out your local staples store at the expense of staples.com is to place all your online orders in store at the ordering station, but then sending returns back via pre-paid ups. Accounting-wise, the store gets the sales, the .com takes hit for return and shipping.
