Based on posters to this thread I will go back to free not paid sorry!

okay staples has the battery deal again even better then ever. this weeks flyer has 5 dollars off on a 25 dollar purchase. It also has buy up to 2 packages of aaa or aa batteries at 13.99 each and get 100% reward money about a month later.

As I figure this 2 x 13.99 = 27.98 add sales tax in NJ 7% about 1.96 total of 29.94.

get 5 dollars off now with coupon

(according to other posters the rewards would be reduced by the 5 dollar coupon so you would not get 27.98 in about a month with rewards total back is 32.98 - 29.94 = 3.04 profit! )

It is pretty good deal
below is the weekly ad

http://weeklyad.staples.com/Staples...s-121209&listingid=0&sneakpeek=N&pagenumber=1

page one is the 5 off 25 coupon page sixteen is the battery deal. they also have a good mouse deal on page 5.

I always get my AA & AAA batteries at Staples because of these deals.

Honestly, I don't think you can profit from it. $5 off discount on your receipt will also be reflected on your rewards.

well i thought about that and I purchased a can of natural almonds in the snack section price was 4.99.

so I spent more just in case your idea is correct. they gave me 5 off so when the rewards come back next month I will post as to how they handled the rewards (not rebate). I have no complaints they ran this deal for oct I paid just the tax. they ran it for nov I paid just the tax. now in dec even if they lower the deal a bit due to the coupon it will still be outstanding.

Note this post has 2 corrections;

based on the posts below I was smart to buy the almonds.

Staples has been doing this battery deal for 3+ years, so it's well known by now what happens when you use coupons or rewards to pay for it. You'll just get back what you paid, so whatever you do, you don't want to use rewards to pay for the purchase. Coupon usage is fine unless you're buying something else you wouldn't have bought just to cover the minimum, as you won't get more back than the after-coupon total for the batteries. You'll save a small amount on the sales tax though due to reduced subtotal.

This. Using coupons to reduce the price of a 100% rewards item, will also likewise reduce the rewards that you get. It's also why you cannot roll rewards.

Rebates are different, if you use a coupon towards a rebated item, you get the full rebate amount. But not rewards.

I like office max but my local office closed. Nearest one is too far. 25 miles or so.

this is a dec deal.

if you wait a few minutes I will check my staples account. my account is updated to dec 8th.

Just checked it shows the money from my nov battery purchase. since I purchased these dec batteries on dec 9th I will need to wait for a new update.

dumb question but is this automatic? like ... buy the batteries, give them your rewards card and later, you will get some money to use at staples via the account on the card, no forms to fill out, etc

they mail it about 40 days later. if you are in a rush you can go online and print it in about 30 days. you need a card and an account. I have done this deal 3 times this year oct nov dec last year 2 times
