Question: I just tried using a $40 off $200 coupon that expires today and they asked how i got the coupon so i said through e-mail (i am trying to pricematch as well). so then the csr says that it's non-transferrable. Is that how it is for all coupon codes? Or is this a "is depends on the CSR" type of deal?

Just ordered it without the ata100 controller. The controller offer expires 3/31 so it's always possible to get it later (and maybe apply another coupon by adding something else). CircuitCity has it also. The controller deal will work with this drive - the drive part number is K0192000U, meeting the "K0" requirement of the controller rebate.

Called again. Different CSR. Different $40 of $200 code. Same results. She said that they were e-mailed to specific customers and that I would not be able to use this. Anyone else having this problem?

layzee,

place your order over the web so you can enter coupon codes until one works...wait a day or two and call up for a price match over the phone...avoid the coupon headache that way

BTW, where are you price matching from ??

Guys! Slow down, it has been stated that STaples sells the 20GB 5400RPM in a kit and WITHOUT KIT -- this one is WITHOUT KIT, which the Maxtor ATA100 rebate says will not work.

==== On the good news front ====

Just got a phone call from my Staples (45 miles away) that they just put it in the mail UPS and I should get it Friday!

Here in Seattle, Staples has no stores near the city... they are all way out... so they UPS ship almost everything... and never give me any problems with coupons... and many times the items are actually cheaper than the order price, as they seem to use whatever is cheaper -- the instore computer price or the online price. And in most cases, they staple an actual credit card receipt to the packing slip.

I used the $30 off $100 coupon, ordered the drive plus the $0.01 MSN CD.

Did I make my point?

Please, before you bash someone's hot deal, research your claims (ie. read the rebate details). The word "kit" in the Maxtor rebate forms simply refers to retail packaged Maxtor harddrives starting with the following "kit" numbers:

ST01, ST04, ST06, V06, K01 and K04

Here's direct from Maxtor's website:

"

While the rebate form (on the Maxtor website) states that it requires that you purchase the ATA100 controller card in combination with a Maxtor harddrive, they're FAQ page states the following:

"Do I have to purchase both products on the same day?

No. However, both products must be purchased with in the dates of the promotion. And a copy of both receipts is required."

Do I have to purchase both products at the same store?

No. However, both products must be purchased with in the dates of the promotion. And a copy of both receipts is required.
"

As has been stated above, the Maxtor 20GB 5400RPM Hard Drive, kit number K0192000U (taken directly from Staples' website (HERE), meets the requirements of the Maxtor rebate.

Stand corrected. And we can order on a different day or different store.

Who has the best deal on the Maxtor controller by itself?

Kewl, just ordered one, $70.15 shipped, plus tax, I think. Curses on the one who got the last MSDN $0.01 item 🙂.

If you end up with a CSR who won't PM themselves, then simply hang up and call back until you find one that does...
