ALOT of companies will pull this CRAP and the manufacturers with support them with it...

I was shopping for a new oven/range combo when the crap the builder put in the house went belly up. Found the EXACT same Whirpool gas oven/range at SEARS and BEST BUY... Sears was my second stop, so to save time I asked them to price match Best Buy. They were going to, until they "found" that the model number varied... something like 95415 rather than 95410... SAME RANGE NO DOUBT, just slightly different model numbers for different retailers. I have seen COMPAQ do the same thing for Sam's Club so that retailers don't have to compete. But they were the SAME systems.

<< And you got that info from... Maybe you are an insider at Staples??? Wouldn't be surprised... >>

Me neither.

Either way, people abusing the system have once again killed more hot deals. In fact, just about the only one that was left.

WSC's ... ;)

Staples can NOT afford to price match Crucial so they are lying about it.

If they are going to lie about things so obviously, they could at least make the lies entertaining!

Paul

p.s. I have also stopped doing business with Staples because of their price match incompetence and because they never have anything in stock that I am interested in.

Losers!

I personally have given up on Staples.com-it definately isn't worth the hassle of dealing with them. I bought the Elasa Gladiac TV combo from them in December-then later tried to PM. They said they did PM-but end result was I was charged twice for the TV and the full retail for the video card. After numerous calls when they said they would straighten it out I gave up and returned everything-at their expense. Result-lots of frustration, no sale for Staples & lots of shipping expense, & one PO'ed former custormer who will never come back.

This is wrong you just have to find the right CSR to help you out. The first rep I talked to passed me off to her supervisor and he explained there new policy and also told me crucial was refurbished memory. (bull sh#t) and gave me the number to coprate to call if i need questions answered. I called they have regular business hours and they were closes. So I called staples back...long story short it took 5 CSR reps until I found one that would give me the price match. After I received the pricematch I then asked if I place another order if she could do the same to that one. She did, oh and I used the 30.00 coupon too but had to pay for shipping. I'll call back afterwards and complain about that too. So I ended up with 65 and change + tax per 256mb module not bad for a 1/2 hour on the phone :)

erikatcuse,

You stated that you used the $30 off coupon...which coupon is it? I was only aware of a $30 off $100 coupon.

Thanks.

It was the coupon for 30 off 100. Order the item online and use the coupon. Then when you pm with a csr they shouldn't say you can't use the coupon. At least the csr I spoke with didn't give me a hassle.

Anyone know what Staples return policy is?? The 256 CAS 3 RAMs suck. It'd be nice if I could return it and just buy Crucial's CAS 2 form Crucial. I had it for about one week. Anyone know??

what's wrong with the CL3 256MB crucial RAM? I just ordered 2 sticks from them, both PM'd off the crucial.com/webpromo prices... do they underperform? can't overclock to 2-2-2? if they're defective then I'd better cancel my orders and get something else instead. is it just Staples' supply or is crucial CL3 stuff bad overall?

There is nothing wrong with CL3 memory from Crucial, don't sweat it. It's a great SDRAM for a great price.

BTW, I called again, and again, and again and finally found CSR that helped me to PM! I was pretty confident that she would do it when she said that she did the same pricematch last night! So, I got $22 back (she did not charge me for shipping, but could not make her go through webpromo link), and because I was under $100, I had to throw in $7 more, so I bought two 5-packs of Memorex 80min CD-R's that I paid about $11 for. So my total was $95 (original price I paid) - $22 = $73 and I got ten extra CD-R's. Not bad. I only used $25 off coupon as I used up all $30 off :) BTW, I was smart enough to get her name AND extension, so call Brigette at x5123. She is my new favorite CSR, needless to say :)

Well if anyone wants my Crucial 256MB CL=3 from Staples you can have it for the $85.57 I paid plus shipping. PM me before I send it back. I'm going to pay a little more to get CL=2 and ECC direct from Crucial.

People make a huge deal out of CL2 vs. CL3. When I put together a new system a year ago I benchmarked both settings. In most benchmarks the difference was 1-3%. In other words, there is a difference, but not one you'll ever notice. Nice to have CL2 if you can get it for a good price (especially good for bragging rights on the forums) but if you have CL3 no need to discard it.

And that's a 1-3% difference on WHAT?

I argue that you'll never be able to see the difference in any measurable way. Counter Strike will look the same. Microsoft Word will check spelling just as fast. Internet Explorer will crash just as efficiently.

The only people who you'll ever impress will be your geek friends. And if they were your real friends, they'd tell you how uncool you are.

All my love,
