I managed to get them to pricematch + cashback their own website. Perhaps it's different in Socialist Canada, when product buys you. :p

They didn't change the price on the shelf though. Asses.

Sounds like you definitely need to steer clear of fat ladies and Staples Managers. God, I couldn't imagine what would happen if you ran into a fat-a$$ed female Staples Manager. Your head might explode. :D

Should have ordered the scanner online & combined with a "$30 off $150" coupon (free delivery for purchases over $50). (Need to be on the Staples email list to receive these "coded: one time use" coupons).
Check f@wallet.com for other Staples coupons. There's currently a "$25 credit on Staples $100 Discover Card purchases".
Also, sign up for Staples Business Rewards, which can qualify for a separate rebate check.

The $161 price was actually the price for an open box version of the scanner.

Staples policy is to take 10% off of a unit that has been on display or otherwise opened.

179.99-10%=161.99

It is staples policy not to match the price of a new item to one that has been used (obviously).

I know this because i have over 2 years experience working at staples.

Maybe where you are....but the scanner I bought at the original Staples I went to was NOT an open box. In fact they had 4 on the shelf when I bought mine.

I wonder if we can find the managers rant online about the idiot customer that wanted him to pricematch a scanner.

Makes sense to me but the manager was still dumb for not telling him the exact reason.

^ Staples associate of 3 years here

The policy is too match any price seen on our website or at different stores. What probaly happened is that scanner was on clearance at one market staples, and the different staples it was not on clearance. If the tag was yellow/orange, its clearance. If you look on the bottom of the tag, it will state " Clearance pricing is for instock, instore merchandise". I am pretty sure thats what it says but I will have to check. The policy is too probaly not match it, but I am not completely sure about C status items. I will check when I go to work on saturday about that exact item. Also, a manager should have not been called with such a small price difference. It takes at least 30 bucks for apporval. I have to leave now for class, but I will look deeper and see if i can get you an answer.

Wasn't a clearance item. Had a regular tag at both stores.

Really doesn't matter now anyway. Damn scanner quit working after 2 days. Tension belt or something, scan arm stopped moving. Returned it and bought a Canon 8400F from Amazon.

To me it seems like the point is just that he ran into a bad manager. That's no reason not to shop at Staples; that's just an employee problem. Staples sells products for money and uses people to sell them, like every other store in town. Either the manager was being a jerk or simply didn't understand all the rules of the store. Do you honestly know every single rule for the company you work for?

 Good rant.. I followed it fairly well, even without paragraphs.

And  for your wife... It's taking me forever to get my wife to do things like that. She's more the type to say "you're making a scene... you're holding up the line..."
