:QNo early bird special will be online. Why should you be able to sit @home and order anything online when others have to go to the store and wait inline.

Because Staples is 50 miles away from me!

anyone know if the maxtor 200gig is sata or ide?

I was just at Staples this evening. All the Maxtors were IDE's. Also all the serical numbers started with Y so they are all 8 MB buffers--no 16's.

I was at Staples tonight and asked the manager how many of $450 Acer Laptops were allocated per store.

He didn't know how many other stores had but this store (Mt. Laurel in NJ) were allocated 14 Acer Laptops. This Staples is in a large mall with a lot of traffic so I don't expect other stores to have been allocated much more.

If you guys want this laptop, you guys probably should line up early.

Good luck!

I ordered one of the hard drives online, and tried for the DVD burner and webcam as well. Both were out of stock, but now I can add the burner to my cart again. No $20 instant savings, though. Anyone else have this problem?

Are the specials Early Birds? Those are over at 11:00 am I believe.....

Look at the main Early Bird Specials page. It says Friday, 11/25/05 only while supplies last. Nothing about before 11 AM...

Guys, I picked up the Acer Lappy, model AS3613LCI.. for $449 + tax. Is this one any good? Anyone here actually owns one? I can always return it within 14 days from today.
Also scored the 200GB for $29 AR and 2 Samsung 19" LCDs for $199 AR.

Any comments on the Acer? Thanks in advance.

Staples was the easiest BF deal yet. I was able to call their 800 # at 6am and buy what I wanted.

I got NSWP2006 and the Altec lansing speakers (MX5020). After a $20 coupon and two $10 rewards they are paying me $16 after rebates.

Not bad for never leaving the house.

Cloning my 160gb drive over to the 200gb now 😀 Already set up my MX3000 set, I like it a lot better than my older MX Duo.

I got to my staples about 30 min before opening, was around 25 people or so in line. By 6 it was at least double that. The manager was out handing out circulars and answering questions ahead of time, said they had about 75 of the drives. They were gone before 7am. I of course ended up getting more than I planned:

200gb drive
DVD Burner (for co-worker)
Logitech MX3000 Cordless Desktop
Paper Shredder
Power Strip
Canon Photo Paper
PNY 512mb Flash Drive

Didn't even need the flash drive, but it was the last one, so I grabbed it. If I don't sell it, maybe I'll use it as a AT Secret Santa gift 🙂

So, even though they specified IN-STORE only, they did have the stuff online.

Now if only they were ready for the avalanche of people trying to get in on the deals...
Maybe they will learn and buy some more servers next big sale that have? 😉

My local store was out of the hdd before I got there at 10am. I did pick up the STi cellphone kit to try. Cingular has poor coverage in my area, so I wanted to see if the Sprint network was better. They have 14-day return on the cellphone.

Also, with the NAV/GoBack bundle there may be an extra upgrade rebate available for GoBack. There's an upgrade form for GoBack 4.0 (not sure if that's the version that will be bundled with NAV 2006). So you should be able to make $20 on the deal.

I got the NAV/GoBack bundle but the upgrader form is for GoBack! Now I need to find an upgrade form for NAV 06...
Edit: NAV 2006 pdf
Edit2: easier to just go to Symantec Rebate Center and type in the offer numbers (05-37712 for NAV 06 upgrade). You can then print out the forms filled with your information.

My local Staples had 72 of the 200GB hard drives. They were ALL gone at 6:05am. Yep, 5 minutes is all it took. Pretty crazy morning, I'm just glad I got one. 🙂

My staples had like 8 harddrives. They had nothing out. You had a line with a guy retrieiving 1 item at a time from the back. Luckily I was first in. It was kinda stupid the way they did it here. None of the drives on the shelf. None of the jump drives out, none of the ram out, none of the 14.95 wireless mice out (I felt like I had to make a Sopranos like deal to get the mice), all the free stuff was in the copy center. All of the cd's and dvd's were in the copy center floor - you had to ask one girl to hand it to you.

Sheesh. . .

Went to my staples and got the PNY 512 MB flash drive ($10 AR), the 200 GB hard drive ($30 AR), the DVD-RW ($20 AR), and the V-Tech wirless phones ($15 AR). I didn't really want the LCD since I'm happy just using the cheaper CRTs for now. Don't really need the HD, but at that price, why not. I figure I'll get an external case and set it one of my three big hard drives up as an external backup drive.

As for the DVD-RW...mine was a BTC brand (junk). I'm thinking that I might just take it back and splurge on one of the quality NECs from Newegg for $40 shipped.

The local Staples here had 106 HD's that were gone in the first 10 minutes. They estimated there were 250+ people in line waiting at opening.

This year, since the deals were so ******, I chose to stay at home and order online and get whatever I could. I was pro-active and called Staples Corporate a week before. I spoke with a friendly gal who seemed to know what she was talking about. However, in the end, she screwed me.

I asked when the deals would appear online and she said 6AM my local time. Being in the business, I know it is all but impossible to deliver time appropriate web page unless you know where the user is from, so I triple checked with her saying "How is it possible for Staples to know what time zone I am in when I haven?t logged in yet." She said she didn?t know, but she did know they could.

I woke up at just a touch before 5AM so I checked the site. Nothing there yet on the specials. Went back to sleep and woke up again at 5:40, checked the site for the hell of it and sure enough the specials were already up AND a message stating they went up at 5AM my time.

Knowing what was going to happen I clicked on the monitor anyway and sure enough "OUT OF STOCK". Needless to say I was less than happy, particularly since the online deal was $30 better than the instore.

Anyways, I added the HD, the DVD drive, and the DVD media. Then I clicked the Laminator which I have been trying to get for 3 years now. Like 99.9999% of the people who want them, I don?t really need one and don?t really have a use for it, but would still like one, yet every year they are the first thing to go. Go figure.

Going to the checkout I notice the total look high, damn high. After stumbling around for 15 minutes I find THERE IS A GD COUPON CODE BURIED AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF EACH PRODUCT PAGE. So I gather all them up and try to enter them at checkout. Of course, they will not work. Server first times out, then says they are invalid, then the HD comes up and shows OOS.

A friend of mine, who is an IT dude and very computer and Internet savvy got hammered by the same thing. He had to call later in the day to get his order corrected and the coupons added. He said it was obvious Staples had been getting calls all day long on the damn hidden coupons.

By this time I am, well, not too happy, so I call Staples. Hoping to order, but mainly to eat out someone?s ass, anyone who works for this place.

I end up getting a nice lady on the phone after about 5 minutes and I get my stuff on order. I convey my disappointment and she apologizes.

When I went to the local B/M store later, they still had 12 or so Samsung monitors in stock.

Personally, I believe people should let Staples know how hiding the coupons was not only customer unfriendly, but could be considered by some as borderline fraud and certainly instills a sense of distrust into the customers.

Our problem is, since we are in a small market, there is no where else locally to buy. Staples is the ONLY local office type superstore. Best Buy was claiming to be here by this Christmas, but no way that?s gonna happen this year since they haven?t even started construction yet.

I was speaking with another friend of mine who also owns his own business. Even though both of our businesses are small, we both know pissing off your customers is not the way to gain business. Oh well.
