Staples pricematch policy sucks. Staples in general has been sliding down hill the last couple years IMHO.
They tightened their coupon polices and the managers seem scared to death to help anymore. In addition, I find a lot of their promotions to suck, going from abundant $30 off $150?s they used to send out to an occasional $20 off $150 and the hen?s tooth rare $20 off $100?s. It has been suggested that they are positioning themselves like Blockbuster, trying to identify and weed out us ?devil? customers who only ask them to play be the rules they set. I am signed up on no less than 20 E-mail accounts and the coupons almost invariably show on the accounts that have not used many in the past. My main account (which incidentally logged close to $10K in purchases last year) virtually never gets coupons anymore.
But back to the pricing policy, I have tried on numerous occasions to have them match price, going out of my way to keep my business with them. Inevitably they weasel their way out even though the price matches are against reputable online dealers such as Amazon, Best Buy, etc.)
As an example, Amazon was selling retail version of Windows XP for $50 delivered. Staples price was $99. Another example was a photo frame I could buy elsewhere for about 60% of what Staples wanted. Both time I got the same lame excuse. ?Well, since we only ship next day, we have to factor in that cost from the other merchant? then, of course the other merchant is much higher.
The 2 things that piss me off about that is:
1) I could care less about getting the item in one day
and
2) Staples has never, ever, delivered to me in one day. That ?one day? delivery is based in large markets where they deliver via a Staples truck. Mine *always* take 2 or more days to arrive.
All that said, I do find Easy Rebate to be a nice feature and out of the hundreds and hundreds of rebates I have logged, only 2 had issues that were promptly corrected. Sad as it is I have over a grand in rebates out right now with Staples.
