40 AR is a good price. When Fry's sell these on sale it's 69.99 OTD. I am still thinking about the IOMagic burner for 20 AR but I already own three NEC drives, the 1300A the 2500a MadDog I flashed to a dual layer burner and I just bought the 3550 at Newegg for 38 + shipping and tax. Do I really need a DVD burner in 4 of my computers?
For what it's worth, I bought an I/O Magic DVDWriter from Staples two years ago and any audio CD's I burn with it skip like mad. It was an Optorite drive however, so maybe the BTC's are marginally better.

I'm just going to do what I should have done from the getgo and buy an NEC DL drive.

Over FW, people are claiming there are getting either BenQ or Liteon drives. But I agree with you, NEC's are the best, (IMO). My 3 year old 1300a still works perfectly and they burn anything I throw at 'em.

The rebate for the Maxtor 200GB HD reads ...
Offer not valid with any other rebates, offers or promotions.

Does that mean that you can't use coupons?

I got a printable $10 off my next purchase coupon online when I purchased the Epson CX3810 printer online a few days ago.

Would that coupon void my warranty?

very nice deal. i bought the 200GB, a 1GB cruzer for the gf, and a 50pack DVD-R for the pr0n collection 😀

The I/O Magic DL burner is a great deal! But today I cannot venture out since the weather is not coopearting (freezing drizle all weekend long) and hopefully Staples where I live has plenty in stock on this item.

Just installed my burner, and mine is a Liteon

I had a bunch of officemax coupons mailed to me (cus I haven't shopped there in forever, lol, they're trying to lure me back in), 30 off 150 onlnie and 10 instore copuon. So I went to Staples store and they said they can't honor $30 coupon in store but can order online for me and then use the coupon. So I got maxtor, DVD burner, and their 40 dollar 12 sheet cross cut shredder all for $70 AR or basically I got a $10 maxtor if you want to look at it like that.

Then I picked up their $20 fax which is $70 before rebates plus FAR phillips universal remote control and got additional 10 dollar off with instore OfficeMax coupon. I wasn't alone, my friend also got the fax and some paper shredder plus bunch of other little things.

Now this is where it gets fun, we make another stop at Circuit City to check out their sales, come outside and truck's side window is busted out and all the boxes stolen. Bummer. Some guy said he's seen two black dudes going through the truck. Now I gotta wait 2 months for rebates for the crap I no longer even have. And the guy has to pay for his truck out of his pocket since he's got $500 deductable. Damn you Staples supah deals that get peoples trucks vandalised! Damn you!

Ditto. I had some minor errors on verify after burning my first Playo DVD-R (UME01 media code), but the AML (DVD+R) it seems to eat up just fine, on my 1300A.

I didn't look to see where the playos were made until I got them home. If i saw made in china I wouldn't have bothered. But as long as I had them I gave it a shot. In fact I burned 2 of them on my benq 1655. Even though they are the +r 8x I burned it at 16x and I overburned it by 100meg while defragging the drive with the files. Even though nero said it failed at the very end during write these things burned great. I had very few pifs ranging from 2-4 with a max of 24 only in the overburned area at the end. PIE's were only maxed at 30 or so. These are not as good as my mcc's or ricoh's but way better than my MIJ sony 8x -r sony08d1 dvd's. Don't know about the quality long term but so far it looks good. Hope I'm not playing russian roulette with my data.

I bought the same things too. Good deal. Don't forget you can recycle your ink for a $3 off coupon, even the cheap ink like the Canons. It's a limit of one coupon per purchase so might go back to get the $9 CD-RW.

Did anyone use the I/O DVD burnner to burn Playo DVD media? Does it burn satisfactory? I saw bad review for this Media on vcdhelp.com

I purchased (2) of the I/O Magic DVD drives and 500 Playo DVD blanks (250 +R, 250 -R). I had $3 ink coupons so the Playo?s cost me $1.94 per 50 pk or about 4 cents each.

Both drives turned out to be MagicSpin (BTC), ugh, and both drives are sh1t as expected. When burning the Playo DVD R?s (both + and -) the PI Errors and PI Failures (and in some cases PO failures) were very high.

I have burnt about 10 each of the Playo -R?s and the +R?s on my BenQ 1620?s. Both burn well, but somewhat inconsistent, leading me to believe the quality of the Playo media is suspect at best, but for 4 cents each, they are not worth taking back and will serve me well for day to day burns and to unload on my cheap-ass friends who always try to stick me with their crappy media.

I would absolutely stay away from the drive unless your store is carrying the BenQ (Excellent drive) or the LiteOn?s (Good drive)

The discs are, you get what you pay for, IMHO. I typically burn Ritek's with excellent results.

Thanks username,
I was able to get the Uniden $59.95 system with the 4 phones (AR, of course).
They were out of the 200gb Seagates.

How do I tell who the OEM is of the "I owe magic" drive?

It was written on the drive itself and after you install the drive, it shows up as a liteon. Not sure if there's a way to tell just by looking at the box. I only see "IDVD16DL" and the bar code numbers that could possibly shed light (thought i doubt either of them do).
