Not bad for an 8MB cache version... maybe I'll have to grab one. Grab the $20 off $100 to make:

$119.98 - $20 (coupon) - $10 (IR) - $30 (MIR) = $59.98!! $0.75/GB!

Hot for 8MB, although the 1 yr warranty is kind of a killer.

Good deal. I don't think there is any BVG deal to make it better. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Ultra quiet operation with fluid dynamic bearing (FDB) motor from Staple's page. :)

This is the one with 8MB buffer - should have 3yr warranty. Probably one or the other (8MB buff or 1yr warr) is in error.

I can't seem to find the $20 off 100 ... Anybody else have any luck with that or does it start on 4/6 too?

Not anymore. The new packaging for the Maxtor 8MB buffer drives all say 1 yr warranty on them. The packaging from last year (which are still being sold at a lot of places) say 3 yr warranty. As summarized in another thread, what you see on the front of the box determines how much warranty the drive has:

- if you see a lady, it's 3 yr warranty
- if you see a guy, it's 1 yr warranty

Speaking of ebates, has anyone got a check from ebates lately? I got my last check back in around Nov if I remember correctly. I currently have 60 or 70 bucks in my ebates balance and I haven't gotten a check in a while.

I got my last check from them in February. It's every 3 months so long as you have at least $5 in rebates coming; otherwise, it carries over to the next 3 months and so on until you have at least $5.

To answer some random questions-Maxtor's are reliable. Out of the 15-20 I've owned over the years (but myself or family that I act as "tech" for) I have only had one fail. My luck with other brands is not so good. Personally, Maxtor is my brand of choice-its cheap and reasonably reliable, with good tech support if you do have a problem/need to return one.

The fluid bearings ones are extremely quiet.

As far as the warranty goes, I had thought all the HD manufacturers universally switched to one year warranties last fall. I have noticed some posts recently indicating some models (high end WD??) still have three year warranties-not sure-possibly these are units manufatured before the warranty change.

I need another HD, probably will jump on this one.

Not True
I bought 2 120 gb hds 2 weeks ago
1 at staples
1 at compusa
I picked the ones that had the 8 mb buffer drives. I looked the serial numbers on the internet and both were made in January of this year and the warranties on both expire in 2006.

Easiest way to find out about a drive is to ask whick comp in the store is connected to the internet and look up the serial numbers yourself

There is a $25 off $75 coupon code, find that to save more. The price break down is actually:

$118.53 - $30.00 Mail-In Rebate - $10.00 Instant Savings = $78.53 before coupon

$78.53 - $25 coupon = $53.53 plus tax on $83.53

The rebate is up at Maxtor LINKY

Where is the $20 off $100. I took a quick look at most of the usual places and did not see the coupon.
If I can find the coupon I think I will hop on this deal tomorrow.

thanks,

Google this (Officedepot coupon code), and you'll find $20, $25 off codes on second link that is listed.

I was under the impression that this deal was at staples and that Staples had a $20 off $100.
thanks for the link to the Office Depot coupons, can always do a PM, but OD is quite a bit further away.

Are there any Staples coupons for $20 off $100?

The Maxtor rebate form says "....... at Office Depot only."

This is also $139.99 at OD. Maybe that will change when the
sale starts.
