I've been enjoying the Transformer. I haven't had any forcecloses & really enjoy Honeycomb. It's a little slow with the full facebook page, but still plenty usable. I even can play flash videos in the browser on my favorite current affairs site: bloggingheads.tv. It's definitely worth the $300 I spent.

So, I've been using my transformer for the past couple of nights. I absolutely love the hardware; it feels perfect in my hands. The software, however, has me contemplating returning it tomorrow. :(

While it worked great last night, today the browser would just randomly crash, especially if I tried to view desktop versions of websites. These are not "force closes" but rather just unannounced crashes to the desktop. The device also just rebooted itself in the middle of using it.

The Youtube app is astounding, the calendar is nice, and gmail is decent--though it's much better viewing a prioritized mail box via my laptop than a tablet-optimized version of the site or the app. Disappointingly, the Google+ app offers no more functionality than the app installed on my phone and is kind of useless to me on a tablet format if the UX is neutered.

I was hoping that this could replace my laptop for casual use in front of the tv, but, sadly, I don't think I can get it to that level at this point. There are moments when it's superb (the IMDb app is high quality, and watching full screen video of Sounders replays and the Dexter Season 6 trailer looked stellar), but I think I'm just having difficulty getting to be as versatile as I was imagining.

If anybody has any advice, I'd appreciate whatever you care to share. At this point, even with the great price, I'm having trouble justifying keeping it even though I really want to be able to justify it! :)

ive had my TF since may and ive seen 2 of those random reboots /shrug my phone does it as well

as for the browser, try dolphin or opera both work flawlessly IMO i prefer opera however i havent used dolphin 6 yet

the stock browser isnt that bad TBH i actually havent seen it crash, i just like the functionallity of opera more

its also a great media player. you have to root it and used that hacked netflix app to make that work but it does work, it plays back videos great as well once you get them in the correct format.
all the tegra 2 devices will have issues playing h264 high profile 720p or larger but you can eaisily and quickly (depending on comp) reencode them using handbrake. once that is done they play fine even crap with subtitles

Hard to resist a deal like this... I can even get another 10% off... ugh I want to buy one! I'll probably just hold off and save money for a new phone.

I couldn't resist 300 was just such a good price and I couldn't resist. I picked up the Acer as I couldn't fond anywhere to get the Asus. I don't regret it at all and have yet to find any issues it.

Before you return it do yourself a favor and try out the Dolphin browser. That's what I use by default and it's pretty awesome. I haven't had any force closes in the past two days since I picked up the tablet.

I downloaded that and Opera Mobile and Ireally like the Opera browser; its very streamlined and intuitive!

I also loaded a couple of movies on the device along with season 1 of Justified and after watching an episode, am pretty much completely sold on keeping this. This screen is superb!

Talked to the local OD, they have a transformer but won't accept the Staples coupon since the Transformer isn't sold at stores. I'll try another OD if I get the chance, if not I might settle for the Acer.

I'm posting from mine currently and I am rather happy with it. I originally wanted the Asus also.

Just so everyone know, OD HQ figured out about this and they released a statement notifying their store managers to not allow the Transformer. They will allow for some other tablets though, not sure which exactly.

If you still want to try, starting from today people are getting their Transformers by pricematching Toys'RUs and BestBuy.

After 2 unsucessful attempts at getting Bestbuy to pricematch the Transformer or 10.1, I called around town and found a Staples that had a 10.1 in stock and got it instead.

Be persistant. It's all dependant on the store and person you talk to. A buddy of mine tried to get the Asus at OD and they wouldn't match it. I went this morning and they did.

I kinda wonder if Staples made this coupon to screw with other dealers, as they know the Asus is going to be the go to tablet, and they don't carry it in store.
It's a good plan to make other companies loose money on the deal.

Now if I can get sears to refund the difference in a price match on my Viewsonic G Tablet I'll be golden.

You might be able to sweeten the deal on the Acer.
I found it on www.sears.com (sold by kmart) for $379. Price match at Office Depot or Walmart and then see if you can get the $100 coupon on top of it. When I managed a retail store, I'd do an offer like this if you bought some high margin accessory like a case or something. The Acer case is like $29.99, so essentially you could get it for $10 in store.

Worth trying.

Saved on the 11th hour. Saw they had the Thrive in stock online. Went and ordered at the store, got it for about $407 after taxes. Just came home today with the baby too :awe:
