In my 27 years of life, I never went to the doctor for any illness. No im lying, I once got a real bad reaction to poison ivy when I was younger. I consider my self healthy and strong LIKE OX.

all jokes aside. I have the infection spot on my chest (near collar bone) Its about the size of 2 dimes next to each other, if that makes sense. puss producing nasty little thing. I googled, wedmb, wiki staph infection and for the most part its really just an annoyance. It doesnt hurt and I dont have a fever. Its been 6 days so far since the red spot began. I went to the docs and they gave me a cream to apply on the infection 2 times a day. Im due back on monday for a checkup. As of right now, it started to itch like crazy! wtf. I look like tyron the crackhead from chapelles show, itching at the base of my neck. SHIZAM!

I just wanted to know whats everybody experience with this. Like how long does it last.

ok this itching is KILLING me.

Staph infections are a tricky deal. Depending on the strain, it may or may not respond to different antibiotics, therefore the time it stays around may vary. Staph is a bad thing to get just because it's so hardy and difficult to get rid of. Just be patient and listen to the doctors; ask plenty of questions to calm your nerves. You should be alright, man. Best of luck.

Upon further research of this infection on the internet, Ive come by a couple of people out there that constantly get reoccurring infection sores from time to time. I hope this infection I got isnt the begining of of multiple staph infections.

I sincerely hope it gets cured. A staph infection is what killed my grandfather. Various types of infections kill a shocking number of people per year. I don't recall itching being related to staph, but it could be related to the healing, or the cream might be irritating your skin. As long as it doesn't spread. His went systemic and eventually killed him, because he wouldn't go to the doctor to being with, when it was still curable probably.

Hmmm interesting.
It doesnt hurt, but it itches?
Did it itch before or after the cream that doc told you to apply?
Was the cream called bacitracin by any chance?

Initially, it's worrisome when someone talks about swollen lymph nodes or bumps that are NON-painful, but i'm guessing by now that your doc has already had a look at it, diagnosed an abscess of some sort, and drained some of that pus out for growth culture and antibiotic sensitivities.
My money is on Staph Aureus or Staph Epidermidis, but let us know what you got growing there and what antibiotic they start you on.

In an uncomplicated case of an abscess in a healthy young man with no history of immunodeficiency, TB exposure, and current steroid use, you can make it go away with(depending on what patient and doc agree on):
  1. (1)oral antibiotics aiming for susceptible usual suspect bacteria
(2)Needle aspiration of nodule plus option 1 while waiting for pus culture/sensitivities
(3)Incision and drainage of nodule plus option 1 while waiting for pus culture/sensitivities
Any of the above should take care of things in a week to 10 days except for the possibility of option 1 being ineffective and requiring option 3. The other possibility that would extend length of illness is getting a bug that's resistant to first line weapons and requiring a bigger badder(more expensive) gun. Unlikely since you're not exposed to a healthcare setting, but always a possibility.

Oh, and if you notice the swelling and redness getting worse or spreading then dont be afraid to call your doctor for further directions.
