stange thing happened on the way to overclock...

Something strange going on here. I've just finished my new build (in sig) and CPUz and Everest both show them as 2GHz, with 6 x multi (333MHz FSB), but in the BIOS it shows 9 x multi and 333MHz. What is going on?

did you enable C1E or speedsteps?

Disable EIST/SpeedStep. It will automatically lower your multi to 6x when idle.

Sorry for asking such a dumb question....and thanks for the responses. I probably should have looked at the sticky's but I just got it installed and this is the first time I've ever seen this feature... my bad.

I'll be back when I start the overclocking.

You can leave the feature on once you've achieved a good, stable overclock. It really shouldn't affect performance and the power/heat savings can be substantial.

I think Intel incorporated this feature just to bug people at hardware forums.

do read that sticky from begining to end before you start overclocking...

I have been getting very impressive overclocks on my first and second try. All it took is reading for 30 minutes before getting started. The knowledge has been condensed and made available to you. Don't pass it up.

yeah, I was in a bit of a rush when I started. I've been itching for a new build for a while. Once I got the stepping thing worked out, I just up'd the FSB to 400 and I'm sitting chill at 3.6GHz. That was the simplest thing I've ever done....almost a goof. I have yet to put on my new cooler or new PSU, (Corsaire 750, Noctua NH-U12P), that's for when I get back.

yea. those are really easy to OC.... if you are for it. you might want to try undervolting... undervolting with a 600mhz OC is what I am doing on my intel. And is just an extra level of cool.

And about your Q6600, by undervolting and maintaining a 3.0 is very good for that chip. I thinks thats cool too.🙂
