Standby mode and can't resume (A8N-SLI)

I just put together a new rig with the following specs:

Mobo: A8N-SLI
RAM: PDP Systems 2 X 1 GB PC3200 DDR
VGA: MSI NX6800
HD: Maxtor 300GB SATA
PSU: Thermaltake Silent Purepower 480W
OS: Windows XP Pro Corp.

I didn't get into much more detail about the hardware because of the nature of my issue. If any specific detail is helpful, I'll be more than glad to provide it. I've posted this in the general MOBO section because I figure this issue can span many mobos.

The situation:
I got my new rig up and running last night and installed Windows. Proceeded to update the drivers (all but the BIOS drivers) by using a flash stick since another issue is that I could not get the onboard Lan ports to work. I decided to just buy a NIC card today and worry about fixing the onboard LAN later. I tried just about everything I could find on message boards, etc., regarding the onboard LAN. No dice.

My mistake:
After trying just about everything (updating drivers, etc.) into the wee hours of the night, I decided to go with the NIC card and work on it the next day (today). Instead of leaving it on or powering off, I put the machine on Standby (on a whim, due to mental exhaustion).

The Problem:
I have tried everything to bring the PC out of standby mode (resume PC). It seems to turn on (the green standby light on the MOBO is on, however, confirming that the machine is on standby) and I have reset the machine too, but it doesn't get out of standby mode. I hadn't adjusted any of the Standby settings in the BIOS setup. From the manual, it seems that all resume options (power on by PS/2 keyboard, etc.) are disabled by default.

What I have tried:
-Holding the power switch for less than 4 seconds is supposed to [instant off] by default. Works but powering up again does return to Standby.

-Reseting the CMOS - I erased the CMOS RAM by removing the battery, moving the jumper to the other position for a few seconds, and then moving everything back as described in the manual.

-Removing and Reinserting the video card - Since this could be a matter of the video card not "waking up" with everything else, I actually removed all the connections and then reconnected everything again. Nothing.

-Resetting and powering on and off - Many, many times.

I do not have a floppy drive. What is the best course of action for me to resume the OS and have a video signal? I've been saving up and acquiring the components for this PC for a few months now and waiting to use this for so long. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.:(
