Standalone Win2k Pro PC - Profile Problem

Standalone Windows 2000 Professional PC. Some goof hit the power line across the street, so the power flickered on and off, so some data has become corrupt.

When the PC powered back on after all the power outages, (I was not present) Win2K mentioned something about not being able to load the Administrator (who they login as - yes I know this is not ideal, but I don't have time to explain why it is being used) profile/settings/etc... so they continued and now they have a new default envrionment (what you would see after installing Windows). So, how would one go about safely restoring the original profile back into order (Win2k auto-made c:\documents and settings\administrator.bak, which contains all of their files and settings)?

-They still logon as Administrator
-They can still open their files (by me walking them through on how to create a shortcut to the my doc's folder in the administrator.bak profile)
-But, the obvious problem remains, not being able to access all of their other stuff with ease the way it was.

Thank you!

I think the file you need to restore is NTUSER.DAT
If you look under the Admin folder in Docs and Settings you should see NTUSER.DAT, ntuser.dat.log, and ntuser.ini.
They're hidden files so you'll have to change the folder options to show hidden files.

While logged on as administrator, create another user with administrative access. Log off Administrator account, log onto new account.

Right Click on My Computer>Properties>Advanced>User Profiles (Settings Button)>Highlight the Administrator.bak Profile>Click Copy To Button>Browse to Administrator's D&S folder>Give appropriate permissions (to Administrator). Log off new user, log on as Administrator. Profile should be restored. You can delete the new user account in the User Profiles settings if you wish.

I believe there is a User Profile Migration Tool that automates this process in Win2k, but it's simple enough that there's really no need for it in your case.
