Stand Offs

Hey everyone I am in my first PC build right now and as I was putting the stand offs in the case I realized I was short one. Now I don't know what to do, I have a previous case that has some stand offs but they are different sizes. I am using a Thermaltake Soprano now and it came with the bare minimum amount of standoffs. Any ideas of what to do.. Quick assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Call thermaltake, and tell them. They should send you extras. You could also try to pick up some at a local computer store.

You could not worry about it. The board isn't going to flex so much that the bottom of the PCB is going to touch the case. In fact, the only flexing the board should do is when you're installing components and hopefully you're doing that with the power off.

I'd say if you have six stand offs in the board, you're way good to go.

Right, don't worry about it. Just skip one where you're not going to be pushind down a lot to install anything.

Get on Thermaltake's case (pun intended) anyway. You deserve a complete unit and maybe they'll hook you up with a free sticker or t-shirt or something for your trouble.

I have run systems with just 4 standoffs so you should not have any issues. As usual, more is better as it will give the board more rigidity, but 7 will be fine. In fact, I think both my current setups are running without all the standoffs in place.

:disgust: WMC

Somebody wanna tell me what "WMC" means?

BTW, if they screw up counting standoffs and inconvenience him they should do something to make it right. It's not the missing standoff that's at issue but the principle. I'm not saying fight for a new case or anything ridiculous. Simply let them know that the error caused you an inconvenience and see what they'll do to make things better for their customer.

Alot of boards that use 9 standoffs, actually only need 6. On the IDE and memory side of the Mobo, where its closests to the optical drives and cages, is where alot of people dont put there last 3 standoffs. Ive seen many mobo's on 6 stand offs, where there should have been 9.

I personally feel that all standoffs twoards that back, where the plugs are for your various inputs should be used, as well as all of the ones in the middle. The ones closest to your front end dont really always get used. Your in good shape.
