"Stand-by" or "Turn it off"?

When it comes to computers, monitors and printers, what is best for the product AND the electricity bill?

In this circumstance, I would prolly be leaving the PC on all day, maybe turn off@ night if not dl'ing something...

I wonder which is better, leaving the monitor and printer on, or letting them go to "powersave mode"...

Any thoughts?

You might want to do a search in the archives for this subject. It comes up every few months.

There is no right answer - some believe it is better to leave on as the wear & tear on components and hard drives supposedly is greater during power on, some believe it is better to turn off.

Have no clue - I leave mine on, always have. (Multiple computers, been playing this game for 18+ years.) Electricity? Well, my power bill in my apartment normally runs around $40 a month and that is with 2 computers, my Tivo, usually my TV, etc., on 24x7. (Except summer when my A/C is on, of course. 🙂)

Absolutely let the monitor and any other peripheral go into standby mode or turn off automatically. My monitor turns off automatically after 10 minutes.

For me, I leave the computer on 24/7. Running idle it uses about the same power as a 100W bulb. I think of it as leaving the porch light on 🙂

I also think this practice is why I've been so lucky to have never had a hardware failure in all the computers I've owned.

Yeah don't matter too much what you do like the other guys said....But what i do, leave the computer on 24/7 and turn off the monitor manually whenever i dont plan on using the comp for more than 10 mins or so. I don't like haveing an auto turn off cause if im watching a download finish or somthing it is anoying when it turns off, and then you have to turn it right back on.,..It probably isn't that good to be turning it on and off with because when on the parts heat up, and when off parts cool down and they expand and contract.

I leave my comp on 24/7 but the monitor goes off if i go out or go to bed, it goes to sleep mode (power saving mode) in 30mins otherwise.

I just have mine go into str after 20mins
it's great (uses practically 0w, brings you right back to your previous state in about <10secs
