Just bought on of these thinking that it used a standard format that can be read by computers but aparently this isn't the case. I want to make copies of home movies i've burnt to DVD using the stand alone with my computer DVD burner. Can this be done?

thanks

I take it you are converting VHS Home movies to DVD? make sure you finalize the disk after you are done recording. Also make sure you are using video mode and not VR mode. My Pioneer 220s does both and if VR mode is used the computer will not read it.

thanks Wheezer I've gone thru the manual trying to figure out what VR mode and video mode are and can't find it. There are several sections that have the 2 symbols above them but no mention in the write up. I hate poorly written manuals

Pioneer DVR-231.

If I'm reading the manual right, onlt DVD-RW's will record in VR mode. DVD-R's record in video mode.

Do you think I might need a codec or a plugin for Nero in order to be able to read these disks? I really want to copy them with the computer DVD burner rather than make multiple copies of the original tape (which is 8mm btw)

Thanks

I can't find much on your recorder, but I regularly use mine to transfer VHS to DVD-RW in video mode. If yours in anything like mine (and it should be) mine is a 220-s

press the "home" button on your remote>navigate to "disk set up">go to "initialize">select Video mode and the start>it will take about a minute to initialize the disk and then you are ready to record on it. Once the recording is done go back to the disk set up menu and selct "finalize" it will take about 2 minutes to finalize the disk then you can play it in your computer. If you read your manual you can also select the recording time (personally I would not go over 2 hours per disk)
