Stalking phone calls

I've been receiving calls on my cell phone for two months now, day and night, from a call that comes up as "Unknown".

To stop these harassing calls I contacted Cingular which said they can't block or trace calls, unless there was an investigation.

I filed a police report but they said since theres no incriminating actions or violations by the caller they cant do an investigation.

My phone number is on the do not call list.

Until today I now know it's not a telemarketer.

They accidently left a voice mail in which there was a television and sounds of them picking up the phone and turning it off.

What should I do? I really do not want to change my number.

You can set your phone to not receive calls from a number that is blocked. The person you spoke to at Cingular is an idiot. Try calling again.

Here is a work around. Set your phone to forward anonymous or unanswered calls to your landline and use *77 to block anonymous calls.

Why not try answering the phone next time to find out who it is?

How do you know they are stalking phone calls? I get unknown ones all the time, usually bill collectors etc.

when I got a new number a while ago, every night in the middle of the night my phone would ring, some freakin lady from India asking for Ishbul or something.. every night I yelled at her that she has the wrong number for Ishbul. then other people started calling for him
finally I had to change numbers

The phone company's Call Trace service allows you to have the phone number of the harassing caller identified, whether or not the caller blocks the number. When you activate the Call Trace code (*57) immediately following the harassing call, the caller's phone number is recorded by the phone company. The phone number is not given to you, however. You will be asked by the phone company to sign an authorization form before the harasser's phone number is turned over to law enforcement for further investigation.

To order the Call Trace service, you must pay a start-up fee. For Pacific Bell, there is no monthly service charge. Instead, you pay $5 each time you use the feature with a monthly maximum of $25. For Verizon, you pay a monthly charge of $5 for an unlimited number of traces.
