I got Stalker on Friday and it's a great game. But last night it started crashing everytime I loaded a game from a saved file. The only ones that loaded were the autosaves.

Any idea what would cause this?

It is 1.0005. Bought it from Steam.

I installed 2 mods on Sunday morning. Saves worked until Sunday night (I did load saves several times during that period).

Go to 1.0004. The .5 patch is borked. I ran into the same problem, crash to desktop whenever I tried to load anything.

I don't know if I can. When I got it from Steam, it was already at 1.0005.

I had a similar problem - but only when I was trying to save a game. Try reinstalling STALKER and maybe play around with the graphic settings.

Some people (on other forums) have said that if you install mods, you should do it before you start a campaign, so over lunch, I started a new game and played the first mission. I saved it, then quit. When I tried to load the saved game, Crash to desktop.

Tonight, I'll remove all the mods and try it again. This sucks. I was enjoying Stalker quite a lot.

Play without the Mods first. I'm sure the Mods add some nice things, but the ame was great without anything added. IMO of course. ;)

The mods that I installed were: No Head bobbing & Float 32 (for better graphics). No real big mods.

By the way, if you love STALKER and still can't get rid of the bugs - good news: game developers said good bye to THQ and are doing the Clear Sky all by themselves and the release date is Q1 of 2008! I hope it would be less buggy and more like the original concept of the game.

I personally do not use any mods and the game runs just fine.

Doubtful the mods were updated to the 1.05 code base already... check the mod author's site.

I removed all mods and it started loading again. I really miss the no head bobbing mod (bobbing up and down is fine, it's the side to side that bugs me).

Does Stalker perform better in XP? My system is a dual boot, though I use Vista 90% of the time.

Float32 is included in 1.0004 patch, so you don't need to worry about that.

I had the same problem, I'd be able to play and save just fine, but when I went to load it'd crash to desktop. The only real fix I've found online is to go back a patch version.

OK, I have just experienced a similar problem: I am trying to load a game and it crashes to desktop. My solution was to click on "Last Save" - it will load the last uncorrupted file (you may lose some game progress though).
