Stalker Mods

Hi, I'm going though my first run of Stalker, and I would like some mods that tweak the gameplay, but not take away its core.

I mean mods that change the weapon accuracy to something that is reasonable, and other things that are popular.

Any suggestions?

I recommend an initial playthrough with no mods, except for the floating point mod to make it look spiffy. Also, FWIW I had trouble with mods halfway through my first playthrough, causing me to have to delete all mods and saved games and start over...but it was worth it because I'm enjoying it more the way the devs intended it to be played.

Well, my comp sucks, so I doubt I can make use of the Fp mod to make everything look better.

I just want Mods that just make it so that Stalker isn't frustrating to play, as lots of people have said when the game came out.

Get the quest time limit extender, carry mod, armor degrade mod, and weapon degrade mods. Those are what I'm playing through it with now. Second time through, first time I played with no mods.

FP makes it run better as well.

It honestly is not as bad as people make it seem without these mods. You just have to teach yourself to not be a packrat. You will get plenty of money other ways, so no need to hold onto a bunch of crap to sell. Only keep 1 or 2 guns on you, and enough ammo to survive...and you wont have problems with carrying stuff. Quest time, well there really is not too much use for the side quests as they just give you money which is essentially useless in this game (unless you are running a mod that allows you to buy everything).

Anyways, all I had when the game crapped out on me were the carrying mod and the repair mod and somehow one of those corrupted my saves or something which halted my progression. Now THAT is frustrating.

I noticed there's an "extra content" installer in my install folder...but it asks for some unlock codes. What is the deal with these?

Also, I can't get the 1.00005 patch to install. It says the "gamedata.dbb" file is corrupt...when I check the install folder, that file doesn't even exist. It just has gamedata.db0-7 or something.

DON'T install that patch. Run 1.004 (or however many zeros there are). A lot of people, myself included, have had save game problems with the most recent patch. I had to reinstall and only patched to 1.004.

I played it with the float32 mod, and it looked good, but for some reason it was too "contrasty", like the shadows were too dark. Also, I believe the next update has been leaked (it's a beta though), but it might be interesting b/c it includes the "free-play" feature.

To be honest, I didn't really like the game, mostly because I ran into a bunch of CATASTROPHIC bugs that f*cked up the game for me. I'm thinking of playing the game again though, so hopefully the patches will improve this (the first time I played was version 1.0).

The problem with the game for me was I was expecting too much of an RPG, while in fact at heart its an FPS. I spent too much time looking for things that weren't there and doing mostly repetitive side-quests (kill some guy, kill a bunch of monsters, etc) instead of blazing through the actual storyline. I'm going to play it again though, especially because I didn't finish it the first time through.
