Cool.

Solaris 10 is something that I am more interested in. Image, System-V based OS being open source.

Or has Sun retracted that one yet?

What has that hot little number the were talking about, dtrace? That could be the tool that seperates the men from the boys, so to speak. :p

It's (solaris 10) like the equivalent of Doom 3, but for Unix geeks.

edit:

You suppose if that OSS approved liscence stuff goes down we'll end up with another Debian release?

Debian/Linux Debian/Hurd Debian/FreeBSD Debian/Solaris ?

Several times I believe. It's like a ping pong match.

It definitely looked interesting. I think there was something about it in a recent sysadmin magazine.

Isn't there a Debian/NetBSD too? :p

The reason no bittorent is that the package is intended for a specific audience as qualified by their application form. Even with broadband 3 DVDs worth of stuff is quite a long process of downloading. The real problem seems to be the Post Offal. Mine was supposedly shipped on the 13th and didn't arrive 'til the 30th...

All I can say about that is this:

This sort of thing is the specific reason why bittorrent was created in the first place.

To download linux cdrom images!!

It's not like you can't limit your bandwidth or anything. Novell could stick half a T1 on this, seed a bittorrent client and wham! Everybody has all the bandwidth they need, and it comes out of the pocket of those who pay for their own internet connections and want to download a copy.

I think that would be cheaper then highering a staff to burn a few thousand cd's and dealing with the post office crap.

I am not say "Novell is teh stupid", they probably just underestimated the demand. They could still get all the user information they need/want for research by making people sign up for a account to get to the torrent link. Give a password on a anonymous ftp server and that would be that.

Then that way only people willing to dedicate a 2-3 days to a download would be able to get it. The 3 dvds is probably around 12 gigs.

Then people with dialup can still sign up for the snail mail delivery. I can pretty much garrentee you that the post office is getting some good cash for being over a month in delivering all this stuff. ;)

Same here.
Except the mom part ;)

If I catch you sending anything to my mom's house... Well, you might lose your stuff. :D

Yup, got mine a couple of weeks ago, haven't installed it yet, waiting for time to build a new box as i don't want to screw my current Open/FreeBSD and Slackware/Arch linux setups, they are running so smoothly atm that i don't want to mess with them (except for the systems where i run CVS versions of Free, current version of Open and unstable for Arch to check out the development and to be able to contribute.)

I'll use the SUSE disks on the new setup and check it out, but i have a feeling that i will be running Arch/Open/FreeBSD all around soon, i like the systems and i like the combo.

Hey if, anyone wants to sell theirs ( I mean pay for shipping) for either their copy or a copy of their copy, I would appreciate it. I missed the first round and when the second round happened, I was out of town and away from the internet. I could REALLY use that eval package as it fits right in line with a project I have coming up.

Thanks
