Stairway to Heaven best song ever

Man I just got back from lunch and the classic rock station here played Stairway to Heaven by Led Zepplin.. It's been about 5 years since I've heard it and all I can say is it's the best song ever.

This new music can't even come close to old Zepplin, Stones etc. I wish I could have lived through that time.

"Best song ever" is s title relative to each person's tastes. It's not my favorite song, and I would say the chances of everyone agreeing on one song to be the best song ever are slim to none. However, when compared to today's music, I have to agree that that time period rocked and I wish I could have been there too... 😀

I love the transitions in the intensity of the song.

A similar song that transitions from slow to rockin is Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Yes Chop Suey transitions too, but not the way I like.

SO you could here that song overplayed to death until you couldn't stand it anymore? Same thing with Freebird. A great song that I was sick to death of hearing every 15 minutes.

Agreed

I love that song 🙂

It got me into SoaD and I love pretty much the whole CD. Not into their old one as much but it's still got some good stuff on it.

Freebird has a pretty intense transition too......If that's a criteria...... 🙂

That chop suey song is f**king awful and I think that if you like it you should kill yourself.

Stairway to heaven is ok but it's not zeppelin's best.

i personally never liked led zepplin. Give me Jimi Hendrix and CCR anyday over LZ.

Today's music sucks in terms of talent, emotions, and originality. It seems like every "alternative" station nowadays plays some whining acoustic song about how much a guy's life sucks.

I wish the music was as diverse as the 60's/70's or the early-mid 90's.

I will third that. Although I say the best rock song ever is "Satisfaction" by the Stones. It just is what rock should be.

"What do all the people know"-Best song ever (well, almost). 🙂 The long version, not the hacked edit.
Yeah, I was sick to death of STH, they played tha crap out of it from the time it came out till the early '80s. So much of what we now call classic rock was so played to death when it originally came out. Sorta like now with all the new pop stuff. Remember "bitter sweet symphony"? Good tune but played to DEATH! I feel like my mom must have felt when I kept playing the same old songs over and over in the 70s and 80s.

Word up on both counts. Actually I really, really hate Stairway to Heaven's mystical-magickal lyrics, and the song is SO overplayed on FM radio that I have come to actively dislike it, though its music is not too bad.

<< Very good song but not the best. >>

I agree. Not even their best (though it is one of my favorites by them).

Anything they did is better than 95% of what is played now. Led Zeppelin is one of my favorite groups.

The best songs ever, though, were all written by Pink Floyd IMO:

Pink Floyd - Time
Pink Floyd - The Final Cut
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

I was there to hear all that great music in the 70's and i do miss the 70's except for the drugs. I have to admit it was ridiculously overplayed along with freebird. I have found now that most of the songs I bought the lp's to get ( how many of you ever owned a vinyl lp😉 ) are my least favorite to listen to now. I am much more into the less well known cuts on those albums. A lot of pretty good stuff there if you take the time to listen to it. I have to agree that one of the Pink Floyd tunes would have to be the best. I mean Dark side of the moon stayed in the top 100 album list for what 20 years or something like that. Kinda hard to argue with an achievement like that.
