Stainless Steel Ring : Can it be cut off ?

My mother bought me this for graduation, its beautiful however when we bought it the sales person warned me that if I was to say, brake my hand and the finger became swollen, they would not be able to cut the ring since it is thick gauge stainless steel, and would instead have to cut my finger off at the base!

We went to return it today and a totally different sales person (this time some air head woman) told us that the other guy was CRAZY and that "they can cut anything nowadays!" or something along those lines.

Anyway I figure someone here would know, would this type of ring be cuttable in an emergency ?

Thanks.

There are lots of metals/ceramics they can't easily cut off, but they can break them with vice grips.

i'd be wary of a saw... if they try to saw through it, the friction will definitely burn and scar your finger.

That guy is an idiot. We cut much tougher stuff than that on a daily basis. If it actually was impossible to cutoff why would anybody wear it?

I think there is probably a laser or two somewhere that could cut them off as well.

anyway you do it tho, there is bound to be tissue damage to your hand, not necessarily cutting it off, but some tissue damage for sure.

K if it was an emergency I don't think a hospital is going to have access to a laser, unless I am far in the future where lasers are abundant.

You sure? what makes you think hospitals don't have access to lasers?

Apparently you don't care about your mother too much if you're planning on sacrificing her beautiful gift to save your stupid finger.

They have lasers to conduct surgery with, not cut through steel

Again though in an emergency, if I'm in a car wreck or something they arn't going to worry about my finger if its going to take ages to get the damn ring off.

My reply was for the question "Stainless Steel Ring : Can it be cut off ?" I never said it would be at a hospital. It could be in his garage for all I care, all I know is that it CAN be cut off if you're careful enough.
