Stacks for programs

Is there anyway to create a stacks for programs?

For example, I have MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint. I would like a icon on the dock that I click that expands and shows all these 3 programs. My Dock is getting ridiculously big.

make a folder and put the three of them in it, then drag that folder to the dock?

Make an applications stack by dragging the applications folder to the Dock? 10.5.2 might restore some functionality to Stacks that was removed from the beta for some reason. In the beta you could simply highlight a bunch of stuff and drag it to the dock, it would immediately make a stack. No need for the folder thing in the middle.
