I am working on setting up a new workstation mainly for CAD and engineering analysis but also a little gaming and some multimedia work. Speed is important but stability is the top concern. Right now I am concidering Intel or AMD. I would like to use a Supermicro board as I have never had stability problems with one of there boards.

Dual core would be good as I run a lot of programs at once. I have looked at Duo-Core but have not seem a board that seems to have good stability, and have looked at X2 on AM2 but have concerns about the stability of this new chipset. Also have concidered Optron and Xeon.

Looking to keep this for a while, had my last system for 5 years with out an isses, would like to do that again.

Any input to concidered? Budget for the system is about $1200 with no HD or Monitors (will be using dual monitors and probably a RAID 5 storage drive with SCSI160 Boot Drive).

Thanks!
