Stable, inexpensive mobo for 1gig Duron needed

I've been away from the game about 6 months and cannot believe the choices available now. All i've built is Intel systems, so i thought i'd try AMD for a change. Any suggestions?

Well, I'm building a 1ghz Duron system also and I decided to go with the 8KHA+. Seems like a good board for a low price, about $100 on pricewatch.com. When I have the money I think I'll upgrade to a 1900+.

If you live near a Fry's they have special sale ECS board with 1 gig Duron for 99, so if you don't like it, you can return it. It takes both DDR and PC 133, built in NIC and sound.

I am building an extra divx box for the home entertainment center and I am also looking at the frye's 99.00 dollar deal...I have 1 ecs mobo built 4 others and have had nothing but good luck with them and the board is as fast (noticeable in real world) as any other ddr solution currently available...

I believe you may be able to get that deal through outpost.com...They have seemed to have partnered up with fryes... Haven't verified that it is on the page though at same price...

The ECS K7S5A is very cheap, and fairly stable. The Shuttle AK31 costs just a bit more (around $70), and is very stable. The Soyo Dragon+ has tons of onboard goodies (ethernet, RAID, sound, etc.), is perfectly stable, and costs $120.

The soyo is a great board, and I would love to own it.. but when you compare it to the ECS which HALF the price..I cant see buying it (if your on a budget)

I really like the ECS K7S5A. I have 2 at home, 1 at work, and just built one for my father-in-law. All have had basically no problems, even with older power supplies. It overclocks decently with either overclockers BIOS, or using CPUFSB software. I like being able to use SDR or DDR RAM and the built-in LAN and sound work well. Works fine with Athlon XPs.

The EPOX EP-8KHAL is fairly inexpensive, and a decent board ($82 at NewEgg).

Duvine, dix-sept means 17 in French. I didn't do any damage to our microwave and theres no need for my parents to have an issue about it.

Daovonnaex, you hit it right on the head. I second your recommendations. I have use all three of these board and the ECS is the best buy for your money, very stable and haven't had any driver or hardware conflicts.

Jerk-boy, or is it jerk-off boy, learn how to repair computers before you start blaming companies for your problems.

Thanx for the input, i'll consider it all. I've been researching some, and found an Asus A7M266 for $102 @ newegg, i've always had good luck with Asus mobos for the Intel platforms, how are they, and this board in particular, for the Amd platform?

EDIT... I forgot to mention, i will NOT be o/cing this rig, i'm striving for maximum stability for this one.

Congrats man!. I'm pround of you for looking at Asus instead of K7S5A.

You could take a look at the AMD chipset based mobos if you're looking for stability first, speed second. Don't get me wrong, they're fast.. but start falling back in comparison to the newer stuff. For the most part rock solid though.
