Doing a basic build, just need a motherboard and ram recommendation. Parts include:

AMD X2 3800+ (dual-core)
NEC DVD-RW
6200 video card
120gb 7200rpm hard drive
Antec Sonata case

I'm basically just looking for a cheap, stable motherboard and some ram to go along with it, either 1 or 2 gigs. Any suggestions?

socket 939 or AM2? right now both chips are the same motherboards are close in price, and DDR ram and DDR2 ram is similar in price. for mobo in either case epox makes pretty good budget boards. and can't go wrong with corsair value select for ram.

FYI, I just built a socket 939 system using an X2 3800+, Biostar YForce 6100-939, Zalman 7000-alcu, 2 GB of Crucial DDR (kind of pricey), and the Antec NSK4400 case & PSU.

The onboard 6100 video works well for an office PC, and the NSK4400 + Zalman combo is almost silent, you can only hear the hard drive.

Just another option besides the MSI.
