Hey guys,

i've just bought an Asus M2N-E and everybody hates it because of its lack of memory support. I'm gonna RMA it and get something i KNOW is a lot more stable if i can.

are there any AM2 boards boards out there that you'd suggest for stability and a wide variety of memory compatibility? I've got 9 days to make a pc and could really do with it working first time! (ha yeah right)

Cheers in advance

i bought an MSI board and some crucial RAM and it works fine

you have to check the HCL for your mobo to see which RAM it likes and if you buy some of the expensive RAM you might have to play with timings. Same problem was with nforce4 boards. reason is it's in the Athlon and not the motherboard.

Cheers alent, i remember my AMD64 being a complete arse with memory, thats why i'd love to avoid the problem this time around. What board and memory are you using?

i bought the MSi 550 board and Crucial RAM. Not the expensive kind. Built it saturday morning and so far no problems. PC is on 24x7.

i remember reading last year somewhere that the biggest problem with RAM compatibility is the athlon's onboard memory controller and that no matter which RAM you buy, it has to play nice with the Athlon

I have the Abit AN9 32X nForce 590 SLI mobo and I'm using G.Skill F2-6400PHU2-1GBHZ. I haven't used any other brand with this board. But many of the Hi-Pro PC2 6400 kits use the same Micron D9GMH chips (Crucial, Mushkin and Corsair).

I only had one issue with this combo. The AN9 32X defualts to 1.85v-20mv for the DIMMS. Subtract the 20mv and that's only 1.65v!! Windows won't load from the start, but I was able to get into the BIOS and set the correct settings before I installed the OS. Now, whenever I reset the CMOS, I gotta do it all over again. Other 590s and 570s will have the same issue (low voltage defualt, not -20mv). I was lucky, this mobo still provided enough juice to alter the BIOS settings.

Even with this small issue, I'd recommend the Abit AN9 32X. I run it 24/7 overclocked to 10*266 CPU and 1066mhz RAM. (look in sig)
