Hi I just got my XP1700 today from newegg and when I run it at stock spec it causes my system to crash after about 10-12 minutes. I have an abit KT7a,256mb of pc133 ram, geforce 2 mx. I also have the most recent bios update too. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello JohnyFox, welcome to Anandtech.

What revision Abit KT7a do you have? Only the v1.3 offically supports AthlonXPs.

I'm not sure what revision but I had an XP1600 that worked fine overclocked a few months ago, until I fried it (my stupid ass forgot to reattach the heatsink), right now the xp1700 is running at 1200 mhz fine.

Bad chip maybe?

Also check out overheating problems because if its after 10-12 minutes that is just a sign

Also, is it a t-bred B because it seems older motherboard have problems with them

Yes, very true. My KT133A-based Gigabyte GA-7ZXE will not even POST with my Tbred-B Athlon XP 1700+. Time to get a new motherboard, I guess...
