Stability of 20pin on DFI Lanparty UT

if i'm going to get a DFI lanparty UT nFOrce4 ultra mobo, will a 20pin power supply work on it without crashing?

i'm probably going to get the antec truepower 380watt psu (24A@12V)

No don't do it. I have that board and an Antec 380w.
It does not work fine.
Yes, I can boot up and run Windows and applications, but that's it.
Stability is horrible, that's why DFI specifically recommends in the manual not to use a 20pin.
Get a power supply with a 24pin.
Why would you buy a 20pin power supply anyway?

there's no cheap 24pin power supply 🙁

unless you can show me one 🙂

edit: btw, i can get a 20 to 24pin adapter for free, would that help it?

it works fine on your msi k8n neo4 plat...right? (i've read the manual and it says 20pin is fine)

also, did u overclock on the msi yet and if so how far have u gotten it?

I am running mine on a 330w antec truepower ... my powerstream died 🙁. It seems stable, hasn't crashed after maybe 7 hours of normal use, plus some HL2 also. I'm going to test it with prime 95 tonight though.

Do not use a 20 to 24pin adapter. They are worthless.

No there is no cheap 24pin power supply. But your not buying a cheap motherboard either.
Don't do one without the other.

Cheaper 24pin power supplies
The Tagan 480w $79
PC Power and cooling 470 $99
OCZ Powerstream 420 $85

I wouldn't consider any of the dual rail power supplies for this particular motherboard. Unless it was the $240 PCP&C 510.

Everything I've read on the Lanparty NF4Ultra-D has said to only use a 24 pin supply. Not a 20 and not a 20 with an adapter.

I picked up the Enermax Noisetaker 2.0 425W - we'll see how it goes once all the parts are here.

Actually it will work fine if you use a quality 380+w psu, a single PCI-E video card, a couple of HDD's & optical drives. Be sure to plug in the (3) additional power plugs to the board for stability.

I also ran an Antec True Power 550w (20-pin) on my DFI NF4 Ultra-D w/out any problems.

there is no way im gonna buy another powersupply for this board, if my antec truepower 480watt doesnt work then ill be pissed lol.

There's no reason it shouldn't work. Be sure to plug in the (3) additional power plugs to the board for stability.

my truepower is 20 pin and people are saying 20 pins wont work well. It doesnt say anything in the manual about it though, it just says that it recommends a 400 watt or better power supply.

I'm currently using this powersupply. My nF4 Ultra-D and winchester 3000+ are doing just fine @ 2.5GHz prime stable.

is that a 24pin?

It appears to be a 20-pin with a 24-pin adapter.

are there 20pin PSUs that are actually confirmed to work with the dfi lanparty ut?

i'm guessing the antec truepower 380w with 24A@12V won't work, would it?

I had the same problem as the Antec Sonata comes with a 24A@12V with 20-pin connector to my DFI board. In the end since I had to return the case anyways, we are ordering either a Antec Neopower or OCZ Powerstream to replace the True380. Hopefully this way it will future proof the project a little more anyways by haveing more juice.

I just finished running Prime 95 for about 9 hours with superpi running for the first 45 minutes of that. No errors in either program, so I'd say my computer is stable. To be completely positive about that, I'm going to run 3dmark05 with prime95 and superpi running in the background right now.

It just made it through 3dmark05 with prime95 and superpi running in the background. That is pushing all the power hungry systems to the max, so I'd have to say that this system is completely stable with my 330w 20pin power supply.

Maybe this board and the Sonata with the 380 will work for me then 🙂 Hard to beat that sweet case and power supply for the price! Any other decent cases out there with a locking from door to keep little fingers from playing with power/reset/drives 🙂
