<< For all people living in west los angeles area: I will return my IPAQ on Saturday at the RS on Wilshire and 20th in Santa Monica. I bought two, and I am too lazy to sell it on Ebay and wait for the rebate, so I just figure I will return it. Probably do this in the early morning before my final.

BTW, anyone knows where to get Pocket maps 2001?? This is the free one (2002 is not). MS took the 2001 out of their site >>

For those that missed out on the deal and really want an Ipaq, you can still get the 3135 for $150 from Netmarket after rebate (NM no longer have 3635 on their web site) and then use Amex for adjustment to provided that you can find an ad for the RadioShack specials. However, I love my color 3635 and will try to get another one for my cousin. I just ordered the upgrade cd. For ppl who ordered this, how long it take you to receive the cd?

fyi my ratshack said they have a 30day price adjustment guarantee. girl told me some guys bought it for 549 yesterday and im sure they'll return for the 349 adjustment. however i bet this is valid only with participating stores so you should call and find out first

They just started shipping them on Nov 30th, so hopefully that means ours will ship right away. My printout mentions it being shipped Fed-Ex Ground, so I imagine that means Fed-Ex 3 day.

Compaq just announced a $50 rebate on the H3765. So if Sears is matching the RS price for the H3635 but selling the H3765 instead, you'd get it for $300. Not bad for the 64mb RAM, and 32mb ROM. But like someone mentioned before, no CF sleave.

The offer starts Sunday and runs through March 30. No link at Compaq, yet. But here's the anouncement from

hm despite the install error i receive, it seems activesync was able to install itself (minus start menu shortcuts) and it works somewhat properly.

dunno if its related, but the sync isnt the most reliable. sometimes it works, sometimes i gotta reseat the unit in the cradle or turn it off/on.. i hope this is isolated to me, my visor and its palm software was flawless.. otherwise, thanks again MS!

Ok. An upper and a downer...

Upper: I am surprised no one has mentioned RatShack's current deal with their silly little credit card. Sign up and make a purchase over $300 (i.e., IPAQ) and no payments and no interest for 1 year. That means you will receive your rebate LONG before you ever have to pay for it. Am I the only one who took advantage of this?

Downer: Not to pee pee on everyone's parade, but I think I am going to sell my 3635, not to cash in, but because I don't like it nearly as much as my plain-old Palm V. Yes -- color and MP3 and MPEG and voice recording and handwriting recognition is awesome, but in terms of the BASICS... the reasons I have a PDA in the first place -- mainly to be calendar and contact list -- the thing is so friggin' awkward and poorly thought out, it's unbelievable! I'm going to give it another day or so, but it's just too much of a pain in the butt to do what I need to do most.

Speaking of the RS credit card, if you sign up and use it then you get 10% off your purchase. This would make the 3635 even hotter at 165 after rebate (not including tax).

I just got a jornada 548 for 180 (before tax), too bad the rebate expired on Nov 22. Is is reduced from 299 to 199.

Edit: this may be a pricing error. On inspection of my receipt, it shows CASIO EM-500 at 199.99, so the jornada 548 may be a higher price. The merchandise tag showed Jornada 548 reduced from 299 to 199, but that does not explain the receipt.

There are better 3rd party contact management/calendar programs for PPC, such as Pocket Informant. I have to agree that MS did a poor job on those apps in CE. I like Pocket Informant better than what's built in. I also like it better than I had in my Palm 3xe, which I sold. I found PalmOS to be kind of boring. As with any of these devices, I suppose it's a matter of personal preference. I like having the ability to do any number of things with such a device.

A friend of mine went on Kazaa and found a bunch of people with a file called "Pocket PC 2002 Final IPAQ" that is 8.8 mb zipped. When run, it says "Microsoft Pocket PC Upgrade Utility - v1.02"

I told him this doesn't smell right -- isn't it supposed to be 44mb and say 2.14?

I bought a jornada 548 for 200, got a 20$ (10%) discount for applying for and using a radio shack credit card. Also, I am not sure if the jornada is normally that price, because my receipt shows a casio em-500.

Most RS employees will not "offer" the code becase it reduces their commissions. Be sure to ask for it if you qualify.

Also be sure to check out your iPAQ cafefully RS employees have a bad habit of opening new items and playing with them and then returning them to the factory packaging. If your iPAQ looks like it has been "tampered with" demand their 20% open box discount. ipAq are shipped from the factory with the battery diconnected via the hard reset swith located on the bottom left of the unit. If you take your iPAQ out of the box and you are able to turn on the power via the power switch, it has been previously tampered with. Also be sure to check a see if off the Cd-ROMs have the security seal still in tact.

I just bought one of these at a RS in downtown Chicago. They have one display model left and according to the manager if you reserve one he should be able to get it. I applied for the credit card and got the 0% financing but no go on the 10% off because the manager said it for non computer related equipment only. My box had already been opened but they did not say anything about a 20% discount. Since they only have the floor model left do they have to discount it 20% or that at the managers discretion?

hm i take it you can come back and demand the discount? mine has a scratch on the rear, the power was indeed on, and my cd was cut open. it was also the display model, but they said it is behind the case and never used =/
