SSDs in RAID 0 on X58 motherboard

I have an X58 motherboard that I'm going to be definitely upgrading one day. If I can get a hold of two SSD drives, is it worth running them in RAID 0? Will I notice an improvement a) on my X58 board or b) if I upgrade to a better board in the future and keep the SSDs? I know that X58 doesn't support TRIM but I heard that that's not as big of a deal if you have free space on the SSDs.

a) yes can u R0 on a ICH10R
b) no u wont notice much of a speed boost on SSD's... probably load like 1 sec faster then a non raided ssd system in game loadup time.
c) u double your storage capacity by R0ing on SSD's more then speed bonus.

I run 2 R0's on my ich10R.

1. Primary Boot up which has 2 x 240gig Corsair Force GT's
2. My Steam / game drive which is 3 x 512 Samsung 840 in R0.

FWIW stuckinasquare3 trim has been shown to work using ICH10R here but understandably there has been very little interest in this due to people upgrading or having a BIOS that can not accommodate the larger OROM sizes.

I don't know how I missed that info. I know what I'm doing tonight... 😀

Dunno why you'd want to.... X58 doesn't have native Intel SATA 3 support, and the Marvel controllers don't have sufficient PCIe lanes to give you SATA 3.0 bandwidth. To make matters worse, with some drivers Marvell's performance on SATA 6Gb/s ports is WORSE than the performance on Intel's SATA 3Gb/s ports...

If you're going to then use the Intel ports, but I'd suggest avoiding the Marvell ports as those had issues even without getting RAID involved.

Some tests I ran on the P67

ASUS P67 Intel SATA 3Gb/s Link

ASUS P67 Marvell SATA 6Gb/s Link

This is the reason I did it.

And for the poster below yes its SATA II ports but in raid 0 you will get the performance a single Sata 3 ssd plus the capacity increase on an aging platform so double win.

Was worth it for me until I go Haswell E.

I still never got round to testing that bios you sent me. Just got caught up with other stuff but good to see someone got it working.

My board is one of those with the OROM size limit you mentioned.
